Recently, Toyota has attracted a lot of attention when some of its dealers in the US have heavily discounted the Toyota Mirai model. Carscoops, a US-based automotive website, reported that these dealers are willing to sell the Toyota Mirai Limited edition for around $27,000, a significant decrease of $40,000 from the original price of $67,115. The new price of the Toyota Mirai Limited edition is now equivalent to that of a Corolla with all the available options.

Many dealers in the US are heavily discounting the Toyota Mirai.
This is seen as a strong move to expand the market and promote the popularity of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. However, it’s worth noting that the discounted models are from the 2023 edition, not the latest 2024 edition. Nevertheless, the option of owning a luxury car at the same price as a regular car is definitely a worthwhile consideration.
In addition to the significant price reduction, customers who purchase the Toyota Mirai will also receive a fuel voucher worth $15,000, along with a 0% interest financing option.

The Toyota Mirai is considered a luxury vehicle.
The Toyota Mirai, which means “future” in Japanese, is a mid-sized hydrogen fuel cell vehicle produced by Toyota. It is the first mass-produced and commercially available fuel cell vehicle. The Mirai uses a fuel cell system with a power density output of 3.0 kW/L, double that of Toyota’s previous prototype.

The Toyota Mirai has been a standout in the automotive industry due to its impressive technical specifications. The hydrogen fuel cell system in the vehicle generates electricity, producing 182 horsepower / 300 Nm of torque. The Mirai is equipped with rear-wheel drive.
The Toyota Mirai not only stands out for its environmental protection capabilities but also for its impressive range. According to Toyota’s announcement, the Mirai can travel nearly 650 km before needing to refuel.

The Toyota Mirai is nearly 5 meters long.
An interesting fact about this vehicle is that in August 2021, the Toyota Mirai set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle without refueling. The test Mirai completed a 1,360 km journey after just a 5-minute fuel stop. This not only demonstrates the Mirai’s outstanding fuel efficiency but also opens up new prospects for the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle industry.

However, hydrogen-powered vehicles in general, and the Toyota Mirai in particular, still need to overcome the obstacle of refueling stations to become a popular choice. Hydrogen refueling stations have high construction costs due to technical requirements for storage tanks and dispensing systems.
A recent article in the US press reported that hydrogen refueling stations in the US are still limited and unstable due to supply difficulties.
