Taking Continuous Action to Create Impact
The Vietnamese government’s Net Zero commitment to reducing emissions to zero by 2050 sends a goodwill message to nature. However, the journey from commitment to implementation is a long one that requires community collaboration. Moreover, in this “green nurturing” journey, the active participation of businesses is essential.
In line with this shared vision, Starbucks Vietnam, alongside promoting sustainable business operations, has implemented environmental footprint reduction solutions, addressed climate change issues, and inspired community engagement.
One of the meaningful green initiatives that Starbucks Vietnam has consistently carried out over the years is the deployment of Aquatower water purification systems in areas with limited access to clean water standards. This project is done in collaboration with the Global Water Organization (Planet Water Foundation). As of December 2024, more than 12 water purification systems have been installed, with four new towers set up in Lam Dong, Quang Nam, Binh Phuoc, and Phu Tho provinces in 2024 alone. Through this project, Starbucks Vietnam aims to support and empower the community, especially schools and children, by providing access to clean water and education on safe hygiene practices.

In addition, “Food Donation” is a program that combines the efforts of the Vietnam Food Bank Network (Food Bank Vietnam) and Starbucks Vietnam. Every night, from 8 PM to midnight, Food Bank Vietnam volunteers collect surplus food items that are still of good quality but would otherwise go to waste. These items are then distributed to the homeless and less fortunate individuals. Instead of wasting food, the pastries from Starbucks stores have become “midnight meals” for those in need. So far, more than 17,000 pastries have been donated. Furthermore, through the “Love Kitchen” charity kitchen program, over 200 nutritious meals were provided to shelters in 2024.
Especially in early December, with a desire to directly support and visit the community in the area severely affected by natural disasters after Typhoon Yagi, Starbucks Vietnam cooperated with the Vietnam Food Bank Network (Food Bank Vietnam) and the Son La Red Cross Society to implement a program to donate goats and food packages to 28 households in difficult circumstances in the area. In addition, the program also coordinated support to present scholarships and necessities, food to 200 students at Nậm Giôn Primary and Secondary School, Mường La district, Sơn La province.

In addition to direct community support, Starbucks Vietnam has also prioritized environmental protection and green space development efforts. In collaboration with the Gaia Nature Conservation Center, Starbucks Vietnam has carried out forest restoration activities in several localities to contribute to the recovery of special-use forests, ecological and biodiversity conservation, and the mitigation of negative impacts of climate change in Vietnam. So far, about 2,300 trees have been planted in the Can Gio and Phong Dien forest areas, bringing new life to these forests through cooperation with the Gaia Nature Conservation Center.
The lush forests, the happy smiles of those receiving meaningful gifts, and the “green shoots” being carefully nurtured… These are the fruits of Starbucks Vietnam’s tireless efforts on its journey towards green development.
Embracing a Green Future, Starting with Our Stores
Starbucks Vietnam’s commitment to developing its business sustainably and environmentally friendly is not just about community values but also about empowering its customers and partners in each store to take positive action for collective change towards a better future.
Firstly, Starbucks Vietnam encourages customers to bring and use their cups/mugs when enjoying their daily beverages to minimize single-use product waste. The brand also continues to offer a VND 10,000 discount per drink for those who bring their cups/mugs as part of this experience.

According to Starbucks Vietnam’s representative, the company hopes that this policy will encourage its customers to join them in reducing waste and protecting the environment.
With over 120 stores nationwide and a large number of coffee cups sold daily, Starbucks Vietnam believes that changing customer habits can have a positive impact on waste reduction for the overall environment.
