While most people are celebrating the Lunar New Year with their families, thousands of engineers and workers remain dedicated to their duties on the North-South Expressway construction sites. They are unwavering in their goal to complete the project as planned.

At the construction site of the expressway section in Phu Thuy, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province, which is part of the Van Ninh – Cam Lo project, engineers and workers from the Truong Thinh Group are focused on soil filling, grading, and compaction activities to meet the set deadlines. Despite the challenges, the workers persist in their efforts, choosing to stay on-site during the holiday.

The construction units have maintained a total of 400 machinery and equipment in operation throughout the Lunar New Year holiday on the North-South Expressway.

Nguyen Duc Luc, a machine operator at Truong Thinh Group, shared that while everyone else is celebrating the New Year with their families, he and his colleagues are working through the holiday due to the urgent nature of their tasks. This is not the first time they have had to work during the Lunar New Year; it has been a commitment in previous years as well.

“During the days leading up to and throughout the Lunar New Year, we, the workers, are provided with improved meals compared to regular days,” Luc added. “The company’s leaders also regularly visit, encourage, and give New Year gifts to the workers. We motivate each other to persevere and overcome difficulties to ensure the construction progress during the holiday.”

The 33-kilometer-long Van Ninh – Cam Lo project section in Quang Binh province is on track to meet its construction schedule. In response to the Ministry of Transport’s Spring Construction Emulation Campaign for the Lunar New Year of 2025, the contractors have committed to keeping their workers on-site during the holiday. Some units allowed their workers to rest on the first and second days of the Lunar New Year, but work resumed as usual after that.

The contractors are rushing to complete the final stages of construction to deliver the North-South Expressway on schedule.

Nguyen Anh Duc, the commander of the Construction Package 01, stated that in alignment with their commitment to the investor and the Ministry of Transport’s campaign, the company has arranged for continuous construction work before, during, and after the Lunar New Year of 2025. They have simultaneously deployed all categories of work on the site, including embankment construction, subgrade gravel paving, and asphalt paving. Additionally, the construction unit has concentrated its forces, vehicles, and machinery to work overtime, even through the holiday, to guarantee the agreed-upon progress.

Determined to bring the project to a successful conclusion, the contractors have proactively organized construction work during the Lunar New Year of 2025. Many units have maximized their equipment and machinery, implemented overtime shifts, and increased construction crews on-site to expedite various stages of work. They aim to ensure that the final section completes the earth filling and loading process for soft ground treatment by March, enabling the project to meet its 2025 deadline and contributing to the country’s goal of 3,000 kilometers of expressways.

The engineers and workers uphold their responsibility, ensuring technical safety and high-quality construction along the entire North-South Expressway.

Luu Tuan Tuan, a project management specialist from the Project Management Unit 4 of the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, shared that despite it being the Lunar New Year, construction units have been working simultaneously on various categories of work on-site, ensuring the project’s completion by April 30, as directed by the Government. The construction units have maintained a total of 400 machinery and equipment and 600 technicians, workers, machine operators, and management staff working in “3 shifts and 4 crews,” just like regular days. The construction crews are working through the holiday, focusing on ongoing tasks such as embankment construction, subgrade gravel paving, and asphalt concrete paving.

Currently, Quang Binh province has handed over 100% of the construction site for the North-South Expressway Eastern Section project phase 2021 – 2025. With the favorable weather conditions, the contractors are poised to complete the component projects and connect the North-South Expressway as planned.
