Heavy rain flooded several central districts of Da Nang city on the evening of June 11th, according to reporter’s observations. Roads such as Quang Trung, Ong Ich Khiem, Le Duan, and Nguyen Van Linh were deeply flooded, with water levels rising above the sidewalks, causing significant disruption to local residents’ mobility.

In low-lying areas, such as a section of Quang Trung Road, the floodwaters reached 30-40 cm deep, severely disrupting traffic. Residents had to wade through the water or seek alternative routes on higher ground to prevent their vehicles from stalling.

Motorcycles were forced to use the sidewalks to navigate through the flooded areas to avoid stalling.

Thanh Nguyen, a resident of Lien Chieu district, shared: “The rain lasted from morning until night, causing severe flooding on many roads. To avoid the flooded areas, I had to drive on the sidewalk, which was dangerous. In some places, the water reached halfway up the wheels, making it impossible to spot potholes or open manholes; even a slight mistake could lead to an accident.”

In several areas, the water level exceeded half the height of vehicle wheels.

Over the past three hours, Da Nang city has experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall. From 7 pm to 10 pm on June 11th, the recorded rainfall in the plain areas ranged from 50 to 100 mm. Some locations received extremely high rainfall, such as Suoi Da with 134 mm and Chua Linh Ung with 126.6 mm. The mountainous regions recorded rainfall ranging from 20 to 70 mm.

In the next 2-3 hours, Da Nang is expected to continue experiencing moderate to heavy rain, with average rainfall ranging from 30 to 80 mm, and some areas possibly exceeding 90 mm.

Authorities work to clear a clogged drainage system on Quang Trung Road.

Earlier in the afternoon, in anticipation of potential urban flooding due to the impact of Storm No. 1 (Wutip), the Da Nang Department of Construction issued a document requesting relevant units to urgently implement flood prevention measures.
