The appearance of newly constructed cemeteries in front of the seaside resort in Quang Tho ward, Ba Don town has raised concerns.
Following the report from Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper on the encroachment of the coastal protection forest for the construction of a clan cemetery in Tho Don neighborhood, Quang Tho ward, the People’s Committee of Ba Don town (Quang Binh province) has directed relevant units to inspect and handle the situation.
According to the article published on June 10th, dozens of households in Tho Don neighborhood have, since the beginning of the year, independently hired machinery and labor to clear and level the coastal casuarina forest to build new illegal cemeteries.
This situation has raised concerns not only about the potential loss of forest cover but also about the disruption of the ecological planning in the area, affecting the wind and sand protection for the coastal community.
In response to this issue, the People’s Committee of Ba Don town assigned the Department of Economics – Infrastructure and Urban, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture – Environment, the Team for Urban Order and Discipline, the People’s Committee of Quang Tho ward, and the Quang Tho Ward Police to inspect and handle the situation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ba Don town, was assigned to directly oversee and direct the inspection process. The town’s authorities requested the functional agencies to urgently address the issue and report the results before June 30th.
Speaking to Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, a leader of the People’s Committee of Ba Don town affirmed the government’s determination to strictly handle any violations and strengthen the management and protection of the coastal protection forest to prevent further encroachment.
