On June 18, authorities in Binh Phuoc Province announced the detention of Nguyen Van My, a 36-year-old man from Binh Duong Province, on charges of theft. The investigation is ongoing.
According to the police, on June 13, they received a report from Mr. T.B.N., a 38-year-old resident of Tan Phu town, about the disappearance of his safe deposit box containing 100 taels of SJC gold, savings books, land-use rights certificates, and other valuable assets.

During their investigation, the police identified Nguyen Van My, Mr. T.B.N.’s brother-in-law, as a suspect due to suspicious behavior. After intense interrogation, My confessed to stealing his brother-in-law’s safe.
My admitted that on June 9, while visiting his brother-in-law’s house, he learned about the safe containing a substantial amount of gold. He then secretly took the safe, placed it in his car’s trunk, and drove back to his home in Binh Duong Province.
He further confessed to breaking open the 40-kilogram safe and taking all the gold bars, which he hid at his residence in Thu Dau Mot City. On June 13, he sold the stolen gold at K.H. Jewelry Shop in Thu Dau Mot for VND 11.2 billion, depositing the money into his personal bank account. My asserted that there were only 96 taels of SJC gold, and he had sold them all.
