Recently, following an inspection of the construction site, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired a meeting with relevant units to assess the progress of Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project.

During the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), reported that 12 out of 15 bidding packages are currently under construction, generally meeting the set schedule. The total output value of Component 3 of the project has reached over 44 trillion VND, equivalent to 55% of the signed contract value.

At present, nearly 14,000 engineers, workers, and experts, along with approximately 3,000 pieces of equipment, are mobilized on-site, organized into hundreds of construction teams. They are striving to substantially complete the project by the end of 2025, with commercial operations commencing in the first half of 2026.

To ensure the project’s operational readiness, the Deputy Prime Minister directed ACV to collaborate with relevant agencies in preparing the airport’s management and operational staff.

“Long Thanh Airport is a 5-star international transit hub, so its management and operational team must also meet 5-star standards,” emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha.

The Long Thanh International Airport project has a total investment of over 16 billion USD, divided into three phases: Phase 1, with an investment of 5.45 billion USD, is expected to commence operations in 2026, serving 25 million passengers annually.

Phase 2, from 2028 to 2032, will increase capacity to 50 million passengers per year. Phase 3, starting after 2035, will further expand the airport’s capacity to 100 million passengers annually, making Long Thanh Airport the largest in Vietnam.

Various operational plans for Long Thanh Airport have been discussed, including the potential transfer of all international flights from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Long Thanh. However, the Vietnam Aviation Authority recently stated that no final decision has been made on any specific plan.
