Durian Prices Soar Past 100,000 VND/kg on October 8th: Farmers Reap Big Rewards

Today, October 8th, numerous durian purchasing agents continued to raise their buying prices.

Durian Prices on the Rise

Lý Phát Farm (Đắk Lắk) announced their purchase price for Dona durian (Monthong, Thailand) at 100,000 – 101,000 VND/kg (Grade A), 80,000 – 81,000 VND/kg (Grade B), and 41,000 VND/kg (Grade C); a 1,000 VND/kg increase compared to yesterday.

Compared to a month ago, during the peak season, durian prices have risen by 20,000 – 25,000 VND/kg.

Some farms quoted Dona VIP durian at up to 120,000 VND/kg, but this variety is quite rare.

Ri6 durian shows a significant price difference between the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta. While Ri6 durian from Đắk Lắk and Lâm Đồng is priced at 55,000 – 60,000 VND/kg, Ri6 durian from Đồng Tháp (formerly Tiền Giang area) fetches 62,000 – 82,000 VND/kg.

The standard criteria for durian include an age of 7.5; green skin, spiky texture, yellow flesh, sweet taste, and a weight ranging from 1.7 – 5.5 kg per fruit.

According to traders, the quality of durian varies depending on the soil conditions in different growing regions, leading to significant price differences.

Currently, the average durian yield for farmers is 17 – 18 tons/ha, with a bulk selling price at the farm of around 70,000 – 75,000 VND/kg, generating revenue of over 1.2 billion VND. Profit margins vary depending on investment levels.

Currently, durian is one of the most economically efficient crops. Compared to coffee, another popular crop with a provisional price of 115,000 VND/kg, durian outperforms as coffee yields only about 3 tons/ha.

Official customs data shows that in September, fruit and vegetable exports reached a record high of 1.312 billion USD, bringing the total export value for the first nine months to 6.131 billion USD. According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, in September alone, fruit and vegetable exports could reach nearly 800 million USD, the highest ever recorded.
