Inside the market, overgrown weeds and scattered construction materials create a desolate scene.

On October 21, 2025, Yen Nghia Ward’s People’s Committee reported multiple construction violations, including unauthorized construction, non-compliant design plans, and lack of fire safety approval.

Meanwhile, vendors thrive at Sang Market, a makeshift market just 200 meters away.

Sang Market, comprised entirely of makeshift shelters, is unsightly and poses significant fire safety risks.

Vietnam Trade Development JSC has proposed converting Mai Linh Market into social housing.

Hanoi People’s Committee has included the “Mai Linh Social Housing Project” in the 2021-2025 social housing plan (Batch 6).

The proposed social housing project covers 0.7 hectares, with a total floor area of 14,615 sqm and 150 apartments.

Hanoi People’s Committee has tasked relevant departments with reviewing and approving the conversion project.

Pending approval, the market on National Highway 6 remains abandoned and deteriorating.
