BYD, a leading Chinese automaker, has unveiled its latest plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the Atto 2 DM-i, in the European market. Priced at approximately $36,000 (excluding incentives), this model features BYD’s proprietary Super Hybrid DM (Dual Mode) technology.

The BYD Atto 2 Hybrid Plug-in variant has officially launched in Europe.

The Atto 2 DM-i is designed to deliver an all-electric driving experience while offering extended range capabilities through its gasoline engine. With a combined WLTP range of up to 620 miles (1,000 km), it promises versatility for both daily commutes and long-distance travel.

Powered by BYD’s Xiaoyun 1.5L gasoline engine (43.04% thermal efficiency) paired with dual high-speed electric motors and Blade battery technology, the vehicle operates primarily in electric mode for most driving scenarios.

BYD offers two configurations: The Active variant features a 7.8 kWh Blade battery, delivering 166 hp (122 kW) and 24 miles (38 km) of pure electric range, with a total range of 577 miles (928 km). Acceleration from 0 to 62 mph takes 9.1 seconds.

The Boost variant upgrades to an 18.0 kWh battery, producing 212 hp (156 kW) and extending pure electric range to 55 miles (90 km)—ideal for daily zero-emission driving. It achieves a combined range of 620 miles (1,000 km), 0-62 mph in 7.5 seconds, and a WLTP fuel efficiency of 156 mpg (1.5 L/100 km).

This variant also delivers 209 hp, a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h), and retains the 1,000 km total range for seamless long-distance travel.

Measuring 4,330 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the Atto 2 DM-i includes standard features such as 17-inch alloys, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system. A 6.6 kW AC charger is also integrated for efficient recharging.
