Rajasthan’s Agriculture Minister, Kirodi Lal Meena, spearheaded a large-scale raid on a DAP fertilizer manufacturing plant in Gangapur, under the Gajner police station jurisdiction. Authorities seized approximately 24,000 bags of counterfeit DAP fertilizer, along with suspicious seeds and raw materials.

During the inspection, Minister Meena and accompanying officials assessed the quality of raw materials and finished fertilizer products. He emphasized that the chemicals used in the counterfeit fertilizers are depleting soil fertility, directly impacting crop yields and farmers’ incomes. The Minister demanded an explanation for how such a large-scale operation could operate for an extended period without oversight or restrictions.

Subsequent investigations revealed alarming details. The plant had previously been raided in Ajmer Kishangarh. The counterfeit DAP fertilizer produced here was packaged in bags bearing the logos of reputable Gujarat-based companies and then distributed back to Rajasthan and neighboring districts. Officials stated that while 90% of fertilizer-related irregularities have been detected, counterfeiting activities persist at various other locations.

During this inspection, the Minister reiterated the need for stricter monitoring of fertilizer manufacturing units to prevent recurrence of such violations. He affirmed that farmers are the “backbone of the nation,” and any exploitative practices harming agricultural production would be dealt with severely.

The Rajasthan Agriculture Department announced plans for regular inspections of all fertilizer manufacturing plants within the state. Farmers are advised to purchase fertilizers and seeds only from certified suppliers and avoid products of unknown origin. Experts warn that counterfeit fertilizers can reduce soil fertility, decrease crop yields, and cause significant long-term financial losses.

The government’s decisive action has been welcomed by the farming community. Many expressed hope that similar inspections would be extended to other districts, effectively curbing the trade in counterfeit fertilizers.

This raid is seen as a crucial step in safeguarding crop safety, maintaining soil quality, and protecting the hard-earned achievements of Rajasthan’s farmers.
