Package 4.9, encompassing the construction and installation of the aircraft fuel supply system, commenced in October 2024 and is contractually slated for completion by June 2026. However, in adherence to the Prime Minister’s directive to expedite progress, the project owner has revised the timeline, aiming to substantially finalize the construction by December 19th. This adjustment ensures synchronization with the overall schedule of the Long Thanh International Airport project.

Designed with a capacity of 5,200 m³/day, the aircraft fuel station at Long Thanh Airport features six fuel storage tanks strategically positioned to meet initial operational demands and ensure safe aviation operations in compliance with international standards.

Each floating fuel storage tank boasts a capacity of 6,000 m³, providing substantial reserves to ensure a stable fuel supply for the airport’s operations, thereby enhancing reliability and efficiency.

The fuel supply system at Long Thanh Airport is seamlessly integrated, comprising storage tanks and underground pipelines leading to the apron. This setup facilitates direct refueling of aircraft, ensuring modern and safe operations in line with international aviation standards.

According to the revised schedule, the construction of the six aircraft fuel storage tanks is set to be completed by December 5th, paving the way for the entire fuel supply system to become operational in the subsequent phase, ensuring seamless integration with the airport’s overall development.

Adjacent to the fuel storage tanks, the second runway of Long Thanh Airport has taken shape after six months of construction, marking a significant milestone in the project’s progression.

Initiated in May, this phase was proposed by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to be executed during the first stage to ensure synchronized operational capacity upon the airport’s commencement of operations.

ACV’s proposal for the construction of the second runway was based on the calculated operational requirements of Terminal T1, which is designed to handle 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually. The presence of two runways ensures operational redundancy in case of emergencies, meeting the safety standards of a large-scale airport.

By accelerating the construction of the second runway by six months ahead of schedule, the project owner has mandated the joint venture contractors to maximize manpower, machinery, and equipment deployment, implementing continuous shifts to expedite work and meet the overall project timeline.

Spanning 4 km in length and 75 m in width, the second runway at Long Thanh Airport is being constructed with over 900 workers and numerous vehicles across 40 work fronts. The construction involves excavating and filling over 2.7 million m³ of earth and utilizing approximately 500,000 m³ of materials such as sand and stone to ensure the runway meets technical standards.

To accelerate progress and maintain construction momentum, the contractor has stockpiled over 100,000 m³ of materials on-site and mobilized a large workforce and machinery, operating in three shifts and four teams continuously.

As a national key project, Phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport has an estimated investment of approximately $5 billion. Upon completion of all three phases within the next decade, the airport will become Vietnam’s largest, spanning 5,364 hectares and capable of serving up to 100 million passengers annually.
