Recently, a consortium comprising Van Phu Real Estate Development JSC (VPI), MIK Group Vietnam (MIK), and Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment JSC (DQM) submitted a proposal to the Hanoi People’s Committee.

After thorough research, the consortium proposed adjusting the alignment of the Hong River Avenue Axis closer to the existing dyke. This adjustment will transform the Hong River Avenue into a strategic transportation network, connecting the city center with surrounding regions such as Vinh Phuc and Hung Yen.

According to the consortium, this plan will revolutionize the redevelopment of old residential areas along the riverbanks, restructuring the urban space and shaping Hanoi’s development model for the new era.

The project covers a total area of 11,000 hectares along the Hong River, stretching from Hong Ha Bridge to Me So Bridge.

It will create a series of themed parks covering over 3,297 hectares, one of the largest park areas ever proposed in Hanoi. The park system will include three main categories: themed parks, green parks, and sports parks.

The consortium proposes redeveloping old residential areas while preserving historic villages like Bat Trang, Kim Lan, Van Duc, Dong Du Ha, and Chem.

In addition to the landscape, the consortium suggests developing three iconic structures: the Hong River Museum on the midstream between Nhat Tan and Vinh Tuy, the New Era Tower as a focal point on the development axis, and the Contemporary Art Museum near Long Bien Bridge, connecting with the Long Bien – Gia Lam heritage axis and the central pedestrian network.

The riverside avenue is expected to span 84.12 km (44.52 km on the right bank and 39.6 km on the left bank), with a design speed of 60-80 km/h. The route will include at-grade sections, overpasses, and tunnels, serving as a strategic traffic axis to alleviate congestion on National Highway 1A, National Highway 5, and Ring Roads 3 and 4. Water transportation will also be enhanced with routes connecting Viet Tri – Hanoi – Hung Yen, waterbus networks, river taxis, and scenic docks at Nhat Tan, Tu Lien, Long Bien, Vinh Tuy, Thanh Tri, and Bat Trang – Kim Lan.

A key technical highlight of the proposal is the new hydrological and dyke system. The consortium plans to gradually implement the “sponge city” model for all riverbanks and natural water retention areas.

For the groundbreaking phase, the consortium has surveyed and proposed starting construction in Phu Thuong Ward, near Thang Long Bridge.
