On the afternoon of December 13th, the Project Management Board for Traffic Construction Investment in Hue City announced a proposal submitted to the City’s People’s Committee. The proposal seeks approval for a new road and bridge project spanning the Perfume River, connecting Con Hen (Vy Da Ward) to central areas of Hue City.

Hue plans to invest over VND 1.96 trillion in constructing a new road and two bridges across the Perfume River in the Con Hen area, linking Vy Da Ward with Phu Xuan Ward.

The proposed route begins at the intersection of Truong Gia Mo and extended Le Duc Anh (Vy Da Ward) and ends at the planned intersection of Nguyen Binh Khiem and Ho Quy Ly (Phu Xuan Ward). The total length is approximately 1.8 km, including a 400-meter section crossing the Perfume River via two bridges and a 190-meter road segment on Con Hen. The total investment is estimated at over VND 1.96 trillion, with a projected completion time of four years.

Con Hen, an “island” in the river, is home to over 1,000 households.

The bridges are designed with a 26-meter width, meeting modern technical standards and featuring integrated sidewalks, greenery, lighting, drainage, and traffic safety measures. Given the project’s location within the unique landscape of the Perfume River and its direct connection to Con Hen’s tourism and services area, the Project Management Board recommends an architectural competition to select the optimal design, balancing functionality, aesthetics, and cultural value.

Con Hen currently relies on the outdated Phu Luu Bridge, which has a low load capacity and poses safety risks.

Currently, Con Hen is served only by the 3.28-meter-wide Phu Luu Bridge, with a 5.5-ton load capacity, which has deteriorated over years of use. The new bridges will not only replace the old structure but also expand urban space and enhance Con Hen’s connectivity with ring roads and the city’s broader transportation network, as outlined in Hue’s master plan.

Con Hen also has a VND 1 trillion beautification project recently approved for investment.

Con Hen, home to over 1,000 households, is the origin of Hue’s famous clam rice and noodle dishes. The area endured decades of “suspended planning” before a 2022 decision preserved its residential zone, upgraded infrastructure, and promoted the development of road, cycling, and bridge connections across the Perfume River.
