On December 13th, the commercial flight ER-0005 departed from Tan Son Nhat to Hanoi. The Airbus A320 aircraft featured the FLC Group’s logo, marking its debut as the newest addition to the fleet. This aircraft is the first to reflect the rebranding since FLC and Bamboo Airways separated their operations in mid-2023.
Bamboo Airways’ commercial flight ER-0005 departing from Tan Son Nhat to Hanoi
In May 2023, the FLC Board of Directors transferred all shares to Mr. Le Thai Sam, establishing Bamboo Airways as an independent legal entity. However, during a recent shareholders’ meeting, Mr. Le Thai Sam confirmed that the restructuring process over the past two years has fallen short of expectations. Existing investors proposed returning management control to FLC due to financial resource balancing and governance issues.
Regarding the reacquisition of Bamboo Airways, Ms. Bui Hai Huyen, CEO of FLC, stated that this decision is essential for the group’s restructuring roadmap.
Immediately after the takeover, FLC appointed Mr. Bui Quang Dung as Chairman of Bamboo Airways’ Board of Directors for the 2023-2028 term. Mr. Dung previously served as Deputy CEO of FLC and Vice Chairman of the airline.
Operationally, FLC is negotiating with partners to lease aircraft and secure financing. Currently, Bamboo Airways operates 7 Airbus A320/A321 aircraft, servicing 12 major domestic routes and maintaining charter flights. This is a reduction from the previous fleet size of nearly 30 aircraft.
The new aircraft, ER-0005, will be deployed to support the 2026 Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse) period. The airline plans to increase capacity by 16% and resume routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, Thanh Hoa, and Hai Phong.
From 2026 to 2030, FLC aims to expand its fleet to 30 aircraft, adding 8-10 aircraft annually. Earlier in October, the airline announced the recruitment of 500 flight attendants and is negotiating to lease an additional 2-3 aircraft.
Recently, other domestic airlines have also been actively expanding their fleets for the year-end peak season. Vietjet Air plans to add 7 Airbus and 2 Comac aircraft to continue serving the Con Dao route. On December 11th, newcomer Sun PhuQuoc Airways received its 5th Airbus aircraft.
