The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Office has issued a directive from the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on inspecting structures affected by the aftershocks of the Myanmar earthquake within the city.

Diamond Riverside Apartment Building (District 8) recorded hundreds of cases of damage after the Myanmar aftershocks on March 28.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has instructed the People’s Committee of Thu Duc City and the districts to continue inspecting, compiling statistics, and reporting to the Department of Construction on the number of densely populated structures affected by the aftershocks. The deadline for this task is June 15.
Based on the reported data, the district-level People’s Committees shall guide the owners, management boards, and management units of the structures to conduct surveys, inspections, assessments, and necessary repairs to ensure safety.
In case this task is not completed before the decision on organizational restructuring is issued, the People’s Committees of Thu Duc City and the districts are responsible for handing over the relevant tasks to the corresponding receiving units to ensure completion in 2025.
Previously, the Department of Construction sent a document requesting local authorities to inspect, compile statistics, and report on the impact of aftershocks on densely populated structures, including office buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, apartment buildings, and commercial centers.
So far, the Department of Construction has received reports from 8 out of 22 localities, with only the People’s Committee of District 8 reporting 342 cases of damage (cracked walls and window glasses). No collapses or casualties have been reported.
On March 28, many residents, especially those in high-rise buildings in Ho Chi Minh City, felt the tremors. This phenomenon occurred after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar.
