On July 1st, the People’s Council of Quang Tri province, term VIII, for the 2021–2026 tenure, held its first session, marking the beginning of the organization and operation of the new Quang Tri provincial government after the merger of Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces.

During this session, the delegates of the Quang Tri People’s Council voted on and passed several important resolutions to establish the foundation of the new provincial government. Notably, they approved a resolution to establish the Office of the Delegation of the National Assembly and the People’s Council of Quang Tri province by merging the respective offices of the former Quang Tri and Quang Binh provinces. This is the first step towards streamlining and enhancing the efficiency of the administrative apparatus.

The session also witnessed the passage of a resolution to form four committees within the People’s Council: the Committee for Legal Affairs, the Committee for Economic and Budgetary Affairs, the Committee for Cultural and Social Affairs, and the Committee for Ethnic Affairs. These committees will play a pivotal role in scrutinizing and supervising the government’s activities and organizing regular sessions, thereby enhancing the quality of the People’s Council’s work during this new term.

Another key resolution passed during the session was the establishment of 14 specialized agencies under the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province. This organizational structure is considered crucial for the new provincial government to function cohesively and effectively in steering socio-economic development.

Additionally, the People’s Council agreed on a plan for regular sessions in 2025, providing a foundation for local legislation and stringent administrative oversight.
