83 Traffic Violations Detected on Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway and Hanoi’s Urban Area

Recently, the Traffic Police Department released a list of 83 traffic violations involving cars and motorcycles on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway and Hanoi’s urban area. These violations were identified through an AI-powered camera system from 12:00 PM on November 13 to 12:00 PM on November 14.

According to authorities, during this period, the AI camera at the 20km mark on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Expressway recorded 13,528 vehicles passing through, with an average speed of 74.46 km/h. The camera detected 10 instances of drivers not wearing seatbelts.

Data extracted from AI cameras installed at the intersection of Pham Van Bach and Hoang Quan Chi streets in Hanoi’s urban area revealed 17 cases of motorcyclists not wearing helmets and 56 cases of red-light violations.

Additionally, an AI camera on Le Van Luong Street captured one instance of a vehicle driving in the wrong lane. The Traffic Police Department has forwarded these cases to the Hanoi Police and relevant authorities for further processing.

Hanoi Implements AI Camera System Project

In addition to automated fines, Hanoi residents should note that during the second conference of the 18th Hanoi Party Committee Executive Board, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of Hanoi Police, announced the implementation of an AI camera system project. By December, AI will replace traffic police in managing traffic flow based on real-time data.

Currently, the traffic light system at 563 intersections in Hanoi is managed directly by the Hanoi Police. However, most of these systems were installed years ago with outdated technology, suitable only for low-traffic conditions. Meanwhile, Hanoi’s traffic is increasingly complex, with a high percentage of private vehicles and an average of 2.73–3.1 trips per person per day, and no significant improvements in public transportation.

To address this, the Hanoi Police are implementing a solution to collect traffic data using specialized cameras and analyze it with artificial intelligence (AI), achieving 95% accuracy. This system is connected to a smart traffic light controller (Traffic Light Controller).

The Hanoi Traffic Police Department advises that during the implementation phase, countdown timers at some intersections will be temporarily disabled for equipment upgrades. Motorists are urged to strictly follow traffic signals and instructions from traffic police to ensure safety, order, and smooth traffic flow during construction.
