Surge in Lunar New Year Shopping: Supermarkets and Convenience Stores Experience Record Sales

According to statistics from several supermarkets, as of December 29th, the Tet shopping activities of Ho Chi Minh City residents have been very lively, surpassing expectations and setting many records.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thang, Operation Director of Co.opmart (Saigon Co.op), stated that the purchasing power of the Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food supermarket system has reached its highest level since the beginning of the Tet business program (late December 2023) until now.

In the last week before officially entering the new year, the system has welcomed over 2.2 million visitors for sightseeing and shopping. Tet shopping power has increased 2-3 times compared to the normal business month.

Among them, the most purchased items by people are cattle meat, poultry meat, banh chung, banh tet, drinks, tray of five fruits, cakes, sweets, etc. The ritual offering this year has significantly attracted customers due to its convenience and variety, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

For supermarkets located in apartments, malls, etc., the units have been flexible in bringing out products to serve Tet needs such as fruits, flowers, etc., to the lobby so that customers can quickly choose without spending time on transportation and waiting.

“The entire system will turn on the lights until late at night to serve everyone’s Tet shopping needs. On the 30th of Tet (February 9th), the system will serve until noon. On the 2nd day of Tet (February 11th), supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City will open in the morning and prepare fresh items (chicken, flowers, fresh fruits…) to serve the first days”, the system said.



WinCommerce – the management unit of WinMart supermarket chain and WinMart+/WIN convenience stores, also stated that during the days approaching Tet, purchasing power increased by about 15-20% compared to normal months of the year. In which, WinCommerce recorded a 21% increase in revenue from online sales activities compared to Tet 2023, the number of orders increased by 30% compared to normal months and increased by 25% compared to the same period of Tet 2023.

The most purchased product categories are: meat, fruits, dried food, household items, Tet cakes, Tet sweets, drinks, dried food. The average order value fluctuates around 250-260,000 VND. From January 30th to February 5th, the average basket value increased to 450-460,000 VND.

To meet the shopping needs of Tet Giap Thin 2024, WinCommerce retail system will open until February 9th, 2024 (Lunar December 30th) and resumes operation on February 13th, 2024 (Lunar January 4th). Specifically, WinMart supermarket will work from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on February 9th and reopen from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm on February 13th. WinMart+/WIN stores will work from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm on February 9th and reopen from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on February 13th.
