The General Price Management Department of the Ministry of Finance has recently released a report on the price situation of goods before, during, and after Tet holiday.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the prices of food, fruits, and vegetables have remained stable, showing a slight decrease compared to the days before Tet. The supply of fruits and vegetables has increased in the wholesale markets.

At Hoc Mon wholesale market, on the second day of Tet, traders brought in nearly 150 tons of vegetables and almost 60 tons of fruits to serve the local residents. This amount is an increase of 104% compared to the same period last year. The prices of these items are equivalent to the usual days.

In Thu Duc wholesale market, traders imported over 700 tons of fruits and vegetables, which is one-third of the usual quantity. The wholesale prices of these items have remained stable. Some fruits such as round mangosteen and Hoa Loc mango have decreased by 10,000 – 25,000 VND/kg.

In Binh Dien wholesale market, traders have imported nearly 230 tons of seafood. Most of the prices have remained stable, with only a few items experiencing fluctuations. For example, barramundi fish has increased by 3,000 VND to 78,000 VND/kg; while cuttlefish has decreased by 10,000 VND/kg to 290,000 VND/kg, and mantis shrimp is priced at 210,000 VND/kg.

Over 700 tons of vegetables and fruits were brought to Thu Duc wholesale market on the second day of Tet.

The prices of poultry products have also remained stable. Imported chicken leg costs 43,000 VND/kg, imported chicken wings cost 60,000 VND/kg, domestic natural chicken costs 60,000 VND/kg, domestic industrial chicken costs 50,000 VND/kg, and domestic whole duck costs 63,000 VND/kg.

“Alongside the wholesale markets, some traditional markets have resumed their operations. Local residents mainly buy essential food items such as vegetables, fruits, and poultry. Traders sell for the opening day and supply to restaurants and eateries during the Tet season,” said a representative from the General Price Management Department.

In Can Tho, the prices of goods have been relatively stable, with no abnormal price increases due to stockpiling or supply shortages.

In Da Nang, the prices of vegetables and fruits have decreased compared to the 30th day of the Lunar month. Some of the most purchased items include carrots at 30,000 VND/kg, cabbage at 15,000 VND/kg, tomatoes at 35,000 VND/kg, etc.

The Ministry of Finance predicts that in January, with many festivals taking place, the prices of goods and services related to dining, entertainment, and transportation may increase. The Ministry advises relevant sectors and localities to closely monitor supply and demand, market prices, especially for essential items. Based on that, they need to have plans to ensure a balance between supply and demand, stabilize the market, and prevent sudden shortages and price hikes.
