The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has approved the detailed planning project at a scale of 1/500 for the construction project of the Cultural Square, Sports and Physical Education Center in Can Gio district.
The planned area is located in Can Thanh town, Can Gio district, with a total area of over 100,000 m2.
The square serves the needs of organizing events and traditional festivals for local residents and tourists; it consists of 3 main functional areas and 1 auxiliary area.
The main square is the place for organizing events, including bas-reliefs, pavilions, fountains, stages, main square, observatory, reception house, and supporting items.
The cultural-historical reconstruction area includes exhibition houses and reconstruction space, representing the culture and history of Can Gio.
The sports and physical education area includes a gymnasium, swimming pool, volleyball court, 2 badminton courts, and 2 tennis courts.
The auxiliary area consists of parking lot, common management house, restrooms, pumping station, water tank, power station, green trees, and internal traffic system.
The architectural space of the entire area is open, serving the needs of organizing parades or commemorations in political and social events.
The facilities harmonize with the landscape, green trees, and surrounding water surfaces. The space for festival activities and event organization is arranged along the main axis of the square; the promenade park space with a system of walkways and resting houses is designed intertwined with the green tree system.
The transportation roads in the square area are concrete roads, with a maximum width of 6 meters and a minimum width of 2 meters. The parking area has a bitumen concrete road surface.
In addition, there is a space for the reproduction of Can Gio’s culture and history with 4 main themes.
Theme 1 is Can Gio’s nature. With the design of water surfaces interspersed with green areas, this space signifies a land formed by the mangrove forests with distinctive vegetation.
Theme 2 is the reproduction space of Can Gio Biosphere Reserve (Ramsar site – famous for its rich ecosystem), aiming to introduce information, images, materials, and educate the love for nature, calling for environmental protection.
Theme 3 is Can Gio’s culture. It features the culture of the coastal people in Southern Vietnam with a reproduced space of the Nghinh Ong Festival, the local salt-making villages, and the local fishing industry.
Theme 4 is the people of Can Gio, showcasing the traditional heroic struggles of different periods and the process of labor and production.
