Market Pulse 16/02: VN-Index maintains upward momentum, foreign investors continue to sell

Ending the trading session, the VN-Index increased by 7.2 points (0.6%) to reach 1,209.7 points; the HNX-Index rose by 0.29 points (0.12%) to reach 233.04 points. The overall market breadth tilted towards the buyers with 484 gainers and 318 losers. The majority of the VN30 basket was dominated by green, with 17 stocks gaining, 9 stocks declining, and 4 stocks remaining unchanged.

Market liquidity decreased compared to the previous trading session, with the trading volume of VN-Index reaching nearly 784 million shares, equivalent to a value of over VND 17.5 trillion; HNX-Index reached over 66 million shares, equivalent to a value of over VND 1.2 trillion.

VN-Index opened the afternoon session with an optimistic atmosphere as buying pressure appeared right from the beginning of the session, pushing the index strongly higher and closing near the day’s highest level. In terms of influence, GVR, VIC, VNM, and VHM were the most positive impact stocks on VN-Index with a gain of more than 5.2 points. On the opposite side, BID, VCB, and HDB were the most negative impact stocks, taking away more than 1.2 points from the index.

The plastic-chemical industry is the most robust sector, with a 3.33% increase mainly driven by stocks such as GVR (+6.81%), DGC (+0.1%), and DPM (+0.29%). Following that are the insurance and food & beverage industries with increases of 1.77% and 1.68% respectively. On the other hand, the agriculture – forestry – fisheries sector experienced the sharpest decline with a 1.85% decrease mainly driven by stocks like HAG (-5.2%), HNG (-0.74%), and SSC (-6.69%).

In terms of foreign trading, this sector continued to net sell over VND 317 billion on HOSE, focusing on STB (VND 109.83 billion), VNM (VND 109.25 billion), VND (VND 83.55 billion), and MWG (VND 51.95 billion). On HNX, foreign investors net sold over VND 33 billion, focusing on PVS (VND 57.93 billion) and DTD (VND 3.28 billion).

Morning session: Plastic-chemical group takes the lead

The market ended the morning session with a narrower growth compared to the mid-session; VN-Index increased by 3.53 points, reaching 1,206.03 points; HNX-Index increased by 0.55 points, reaching 233.3 points. The whole market tilted towards buyers with 357 gainers and 256 losers. VN30 basket returned to balance with 14 gainers, 14 losers, and 2 unchanged stocks.

The trading volume of VN-Index recorded nearly 446 million units, with a value of over VND 10 trillion. HNX-Index recorded a trading volume of over 43 million units, with a trading value of nearly VND 813 billion.

At the end of the morning session, BID, MBB, and CTG were the most negative impact stocks, taking away more than 1.5 index points. On the other hand, GVR, VIC, and VNM were the most positive influence stocks, contributing nearly 3.5 index points.

The plastic-chemical industry group took the lead and broke out as most stocks in this group had a good start, especially those that increased significantly in the morning session like GVR gaining 5.21%, PHR increasing by 2.22%, DNP increasing 4.29%. The remaining stocks such as DPR, NET, DGC, DPM, DCM, BMP, NTP, AAA,… all maintained a positive upward trend.

In addition, the real estate group continued to flourish as the Vin stocks also showed positive growth. VHM increased by 1.31%, VIC increased by 2.94%, and VRE increased by 2.27%. The remaining stocks in the group were mostly in the green as well.

In the food and beverage group, two leading stocks excelled, VNM with a 2.51% increase, followed by MSN with a 1.54% increase.

At the end of the morning session, green dominated the overall market sentiment when looking at the overall industry. Specifically, the plastic-chemical industry had the most outstanding performance with a 2.59% increase. On the other hand, the agriculture-forestry-fisheries industry was the most negative in the morning session with a 0.85% decrease.

10:40 am: Real estate leads the market, VN-Index maintains the positive sentiment

Investor sentiment is quite optimistic, VN-Index maintains its positive sentiment above the reference level. Real estate and securities stocks lead the market’s upward trend.

In the real estate sector, there are 5 stocks that have a significant impact on VN-Index, with VIC up 3.17%, VHM up 1.67%, KBC up 1.93%, DXG up 1.6%, and PDR up 1.18%. As of 10:30 am, over VND 2.07 trillion has poured into the real estate group with 56 gainers (3 limit-up stocks).

Following that, securities stocks also spread the green color with major players in the top 5 of the industry such as VND up 1.3%, HCM up 0.56%, VIX up 0.84%, MBS up 1.48%, and BSI up 1.34%. The remaining small part stood still or slightly decreased.

In contrast, the banking sector showed differentiation with red dominating. Specifically, stocks such as BID, LPB, MBB, and HDB all decreased around 1%. The remaining stocks with 3 unchanged stocks included SSB, VPB, TPB and some stocks held the green color like VCB, CTG, VIB…with slight increases below 1%.

The market breadth tilted towards buyers, with over 380 gainers, higher than about 210 decliners. At this point, VN-Index increased by nearly 6.4 points, reaching 1,208 points; HNX-Index increased by 0.56%, around 234 points, and UPCoM-Index slightly increased by 0.02%.

The total trading volume on all 3 exchanges reached over 342 million units, equivalent to over VND 7.4 trillion. In addition, foreign investors continued to net sell more than VND 101 billion, focusing on VIX, STB, PVS, and VNM.

Opening: Tru stocks spread positive sentiment

At the beginning of February 16, as of 9:30 am, VN-Index slightly increased by over 2 points, reaching 1,204 points. In which, the support stocks in the VN30 basket contributed positively to the index with 17 gainers, 8 losers, and 5 unchanged stocks.

Big market cap stocks like BID, MBB, HDB are weighing heavily on the market with a total decrease of more than 1 index point. In contrast, GVR, VNM, VHM led the pulling group with a positive gain of more than 1.5 index points.

Green dominated entirely in the morning session, in which some insurance stocks showed positive growth from the beginning of the session like BVH increased by 2.54%, PVI increased by 0.66%, and BMI increased by 0.22%.
