In November 2023, the Project Management Board of Nhon Trach District (Dong Nai Province) conducted a bidding for the expansion of Ton Duc Thang Road, with a length of about 3.8 km (old road 25B, from the center of Nhon Trach District to Quach Thi Trang Road).

This is considered a vital road leading to Cat Lai Ferry (connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Nhon Trach District) to National Highway 51, and is also intersected with the Belt Road 3 project – one of the key projects in the whole Southeast region. The picture shows a section of Belt Road 3 intersecting Ton Duc Thang Road.

This road passes through Phu Thanh and Phu Hoi communes, Nhon Trach District. The total investment capital for the project is nearly 640 billion VND, allocated from the provincial budget of Dong Nai. The project implementation time is no more than 4 years from the capital allocation date.

Currently, the width of Ton Duc Thang Road is about 7 meters and there are only 2 lanes.

This is a vital road leading to many factories and industrial zones, so motorbike riders often have to share the road with trucks, trailers, and shuttle buses, posing potential risks of traffic accidents.

The condition of Ton Duc Thang Road is also worrisome with cracks and potholes that have been patched. This poses risks to vehicles on the road, especially motorcycles who have to share lanes with trucks and buses. In the first 6 months of 2023, there were 2 accidents resulting in 2 fatalities on this road.

After completion, Ton Duc Thang Road will have a width of 24 meters, with sidewalks on both sides measuring 15-20 meters wide. It will be equipped with drainage systems, traffic signs, and signal lights. Since the bidding package was opened on November 21, 2023, the road has been cleared of weeds to begin the expansion work. After the Lunar New Year, construction units have also resumed their operations.

Ton Duc Thang Road expansion helps connect with Swan Park urban area (part of East Saigon New City). The project covers an area of over 9.4 square kilometers, with a total investment capital of up to 6 billion USD, making it the largest-scale project in Nhon Trach. Currently, there are hundreds of villas and townhouses built but mostly abandoned due to the inconvenient transportation connection to Ho Chi Minh City.

Once Ton Duc Thang Road is expanded, Belt Road 3 and Nhon Trach Bridge are completed, the travel time from here to the center of Ho Chi Minh City will be reduced to about 30 minutes.

In contrast to the narrowness of this road section, the Ton Duc Thang Road section from the Nhon Trach District Administrative Center to National Highway 51 has long been expanded with a road width of about 50-60 meters. A few kilometers from the Nhon Trach District Administrative Center is the Nhon Trach Industrial Zone.

Currently, Nhon Trach District has 9 operating industrial zones and is one of the two districts with the most industrial zones in Vietnam. Completing this vital road section early will contribute to improving the economy and being ready to attract investment when key projects such as Cat Lai Bridge, Nhon Trach Bridge, and Belt Road 3 are completed.
