The US TV channel WRAL recently conducted an interview with Matthew Braunstein, one of the first owners of the VinFast VF 8 in North Carolina, USA.

Matthew currently has 4 cars in his garage, with the most prominent being the Dodge Viper sports car. The next two cars are the previous generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Model 3 electric car from Tesla. The VF 8 is the fourth car that his family has just bought.

Matthew’s garage has 4 cars, 3 of which are American cars and the remaining one is from Vietnam.

In the interview video, Matthew mentioned that the VinFast VF 8 is being used by his wife, Ashley, to replace the Jeep Grand Cherokee for daily commuting. Ashley’s assessment of the Vietnamese electric car compared to the American SUV is that it is much smoother and quieter. In addition, Ashley no longer has to worry about refueling every day when going to work.

“There was one day when I forgot to refuel and go to work when I was driving the Jeep,” Ashley recounted the experience of switching cars after a while getting used to driving the VF 8.

Ashley drives the VinFast VF 8 to work every day instead of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

When the host mentioned the not-so-positive reviews of the VinFast VF 8 on the internet, Matthew said that in reality, this car provides a much better experience compared to those reviews, although there are still some existing issues.

Additionally, on his personal page, Matthew also praised the VF 8’s price, especially with the insurance policy that costs only about $250 per month.

Matthew considers the VF 8 rental price a “bargain”.

“This is a bargain that we can’t pass up. This car is a new model and will have a few issues, but it’s worth it,” Matthew shared on his personal page when he first got the car.

Answering more questions on his personal page, Matthew said that his family still keeps the Grand Cherokee for long trips, while his wife drives the VF 8 to work every day, with about 1 hour of commuting each way. According to him, the $250 rental cost for the VF 8 per month is perfect. If we consider the fuel cost, Ashley’s monthly fuel expense would be even more.

Currently, many Americans have bought and rented VinFast VF 8 cars to use. There are 2 distributed versions, Eco and Plus, with prices of $46,000 and $51,800, respectively.

The electric car from Vietnam currently holds the title of the cheapest rental car in the US after the price reduction until the end of January 2024. Renting a VF 8 costs only $249 per month for 36 months, with a deposit of only $944. In addition to the discounted rental price, VinFast also announced last year that it will reimburse $100 to owners if they encounter any inconvenience that does not affect their use.
