“Untimely” express delivery market during Tet holiday

Tet Nguyen Dan is usually the most bustling occasion for the market in general and express delivery in particular. However, the surge in demand also causes numerous consequences when businesses cannot cope with the system, human resources, and vehicles, etc.

The Tet holiday of the Year of the Horse has witnessed the “breakdown” of express delivery activities with a series of courier companies facing trouble in meeting the customers’ demands.

As a fashion retailer, since December 20th of the lunar calendar before Tet, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong (Hanoi) posted on her personal Facebook asking friends to help her find a courier service. “I urgently need to find a courier company at the end of the year. Can anyone help me? It’s only the 20th now,” Huong wrote.

Continuously in the following days, the express delivery situation still causes difficulties for Huong’s peak shopping season. To deliver goods to customers, her company had to use many different delivery services but still faced chaos.

Huong is not the “lonely” case dealing with express delivery problems during the Tet holiday. On social media, many online shops and consumers have encountered similar situations.

Mr. Hoang Thanh, an office staff in Tu Liem area (Hanoi), said he had ordered some items for Tet since December 23rd of the lunar calendar. The company’s notification stated that the goods would be delivered within 2 days, but until the 26th of Tet, Thanh has not received the items yet. The courier service said it would take 2 more days to deliver the goods. However, he had already returned to Nam Dinh with his family to celebrate Tet on the 27th of Tet. “I feel uncomfortable because my goods did not arrive on time,” Thanh said.

However, despite the troubles, the market still recorded several companies that made efforts to deliver goods on time to consumers, especially J&T Express. Many online shop owners shared that this Tet holiday, J&T Express was much more stable. In fact, many businesses and consumers only chose J&T Express for this Tet holiday.

J&T Express will recruit 3,000 – 4,000 shippers right after Tet

According to the Ecommerce and Digital Economy Bureau, the Vietnamese e-commerce market is expected to reach USD 23 billion by 2025. The report also shows the strong development of the e-commerce industry… These are important driving forces that contribute to the development of the domestic express delivery market in 2024.

Sharing with the newspaper’s representative, Ms. Kieu Thi Tien Dung, HR Director of J&T Express Vietnam, said: “During the recent Tet holiday, the brand made efforts to serve users to the best of its ability and minimize congestion.”

To expand the coverage area to the maximum and enhance service capacity, in 2024, J&T Express will carry out several rounds of recruitment for about 3,000 – 4,000 delivery staff (Shippers), and 1,000 staff to operate warehouses nationwide. The company will focus on enhancing the quality of the workforce through training programs on skills and specialties to ensure the best customer service, Dung added.
