Recently, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Siemens Chairman and CEO Roland Busch. According to the meeting, Siemens Chairman Roland Busch highly evaluated the great potential for cooperation between Vietnam, Germany in general, and Siemens in particular.
The Siemens leader stated that Vietnam has undergone a very successful transformation, with high development potential, especially with a population of 100 million people and a well-trained workforce.
“This is an important foundation for promoting cooperation between Vietnam, Germany,” emphasized Roland Busch.
At the same time, he also appreciated Vietnam’s goals in green transformation, climate change adaptation, high-tech industry development, especially semiconductors, infrastructure development, especially railways.
Regarding the Prime Minister, he praised and congratulated Siemens’ business activities worldwide in general and in Vietnam in particular, especially projects in the electricity and gas sector, mechanical engineering, energy infrastructure development, and industrial automation, railroad development.
And to contribute to the implementation of high-level agreements between the two countries’ leaders, the Prime Minister proposed that Siemens strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in high-tech areas, promote innovation; cooperate in green transformation, develop renewable energy industry, especially wind turbine production; cooperate in the transportation sector (such as electric vehicle production); cooperate in digital transformation, establish a Siemens research and development center in Vietnam, cooperate with the National Innovation Center; expand cooperation with Vietnamese technology companies.
At the same time, the Prime Minister proposed Siemens to study participating in some urban railway construction packages in Vietnam, such as the Metro Line 2 project in Ho Chi Minh City; transfer technology, develop the railway industry (such as metro tunneling).
The Prime Minister proposed Siemens to transfer technology as deeply as possible, promote cooperation in human resource training, support capacity improvement, and build a modern institution in these fields.
The Chairman of Siemens said that Siemens is actively cooperating and wants to continue to expand cooperation, investment, and business in areas and contents mentioned by the Prime Minister, such as high technology, digital transformation, green transformation, modern transportation system, high-speed… including cooperation in training human resources, supporting Vietnamese enterprises to go global.
Notably, he said Siemens is interested in the North-South high-speed railway project and can provide solutions for locomotives, train cars, railway signal systems, as well as transfer technology for train car production.
According to the draft conclusion No. 49-KL/TW on the orientation of Vietnam’s railway transportation development until 2030, the vision until 2045 states: “Railway transportation plays a key role in the North-South economic corridor” and sets a goal that by 2025, the bidding process for the North-South high-speed railway project will be completed.
According to the railway network plan for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister in 2021, the North-South high-speed railway line from Ngoc Hoi station to Thu Thiem station is 1,545 km long, with a double track, gauge 1,435 mm.
The government set a target to complete the approval of investment policy for the high-speed railway project on the North-South axis in 2025 and start construction in 2030, prioritizing the Hanoi – Vinh and Ho Chi Minh City – Nha Trang sections. By 2045, Vietnam will complete and put into operation the North-South high-speed railway line.
Currently, the Ministry of Transport is seeking opinions on three North-South railway scenarios, including two scenarios of dedicated passenger trains and backup freight trains. The total investment capital of each scenario ranges from 67 billion USD to over 70 billion USD.
