At the Cau Duc kom fields in Vị Thanh City and Long My District, traders are currently buying kom from farmers at a price of 11,000 VND per fruit of type I kom (fruits weighing from 1kg and above). This price has increased by 2,000 VND per fruit compared to about 10 days ago. Traders, on the other hand, sell kom at the market with prices ranging from 15,000 to 17,000 VND per fruit, depending on the size.

Khóm Cau Duc harvested by farmers in Hau Giang

Khóm growers in Hau Giang province said that although the price of kom is now high compared to the same period last year with prices ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 VND per fruit, farmers have very few kom to sell. The reason is that it is currently hot and dry season, kom plants are growing slowly, producing fewer and smaller fruits.

Particularly this year, there have been many cases of kom plants dying, which has significantly reduced the supply to the market. The price of kom is expected to remain high and may increase further as the supply is not abundant.

Hau Giang province currently has over 2,800 hectares of kom, mainly in Vị Thanh City and Long My District, with the main variety being Queen kom (Cau Duc kom). Among them, the estimated area currently bearing fruits is nearly 2,400 hectares, with a yield of 20-30 tons per hectare.
