Which country is now leading in terms of Vietnamese investment in the first two months of 2024, as Canada is no longer the top destination?

According to the Foreign Investment Agency, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam's total outgoing investment capital reached over 25 million USD in the first two months of 2024.

In the first 2 months of 2024, Vietnamese investors initiated 17 new investment projects abroad and did not make any adjustments to the initial capital for existing projects. Foreign direct investment (FDI) from Vietnam reached over 25 million USD (21.7% compared to the same period last year).

Vietnamese investors expanded their investments in 8 sectors. Among them, investment capital was mostly concentrated in wholesale and retail (accounting for 39.4% of the capital); real estate business activities (accounting for 21.5% of the capital); and construction (accounting for 20% of the capital). The remaining sectors received the rest of the capital.

In 2023, Vietnam’s investments were received in 26 countries and territories, with Canada leading with 150.3 million USD, accounting for 35.7% of the total investment capital; Singapore 122.6 million USD, accounting for 29.1%; Laos 116.7 million USD, accounting for 27.7%; Cuba with 11.8 million USD, accounting for 2.8%; Israel with 6.1 million USD, accounting for 1.4%.

As of February 20, 2024, Vietnam had 1,716 active investment projects abroad with a total investment capital of nearly 22.12 billion USD. Vietnamese investments abroad were mainly concentrated in the mining sector (31.5%); agriculture, forestry, and fisheries (15.5%).
