At this time, most types of green vegetables in Tien Giang province are priced lower than the same crop last year by 20-30% and reduced by half compared to before the traditional Lunar New Year; In which the price of Thia vegetable decreased the most, only from 1,500 – 2,000 VND / kg, water spinach 3,000 VND / kg, watercress, laksa leaves, leeks below 5,000 VND / kg.
At times, farmers’ vegetable fields reach the harvest stage but traders do not come to buy, so they have to harvest for livestock, fish … Meanwhile, in the dry season, the water in the irrigation canal gradually runs out, the cost of pumping water for vegetables increases, so farmers do not have high profits like previous years, even many types of vegetables are still at a loss.
According to traders, the price of green vegetables is reducing deeply due to the increased production in the Spring-Summer crop, the amount of green vegetables from Da Lat and even imported vegetables is abundant, leading to an oversupply.
Despite the dry season, farmers in Tien Giang province still manage to cultivate several thousand hectares of green vegetables, concentrating mostly in districts such as Cho Gao, Go Cong Tay, My Tho city, Cai Lay district, Chau Thanh district. This crop has favorable weather conditions, good and fresh green vegetables but the price is low, so farmers do not have profits.
