The Vietnamese car market has become more vibrant than ever as a series of car models from luxury to popular ones are continuously applying deep discount programs. It is worth noting that many car models have reached the lowest prices ever since they were introduced to the Vietnamese market. In the B-segment sedan, car manufacturers are actively offering discounts to boost sales and provide customers with affordable options.
Specifically, Toyota Vietnam has recently adjusted the prices of the B-segment sedan – the Toyota Vios. Currently, the Toyota Vios G has been discounted by 47 million VND, from 592 million VND to 545 million VND. The E-CVT version received a 40 million VND discount, with the new price being 488 million VND, and the lowest E-MT version is priced at 458 million VND (a discount of 21 million VND). At the same time, the prices already include the 10% value-added tax and apply to invoices issued from March 1, 2024.
Similarly, Honda City G and L versions are both fully supported by Honda Vietnam (HVN) with 100% registration fee reduction, equivalent to a discount of 55 and 58 million VND respectively. In addition, these models are also supported with a cashback of 30 million VND, bringing the highest total discount to 88 million VND. The Honda City RS version specifically enjoys a 50% registration fee reduction, equivalent to a 30 million VND discount, along with 1-year comprehensive insurance and many other incentives from the distributor.
Not to be outdone, a car dealer is currently offering a strong discount for the 2023 Hyundai Accent. Accordingly, the standard MT version of the 2023 Hyundai Accent is reduced by 49 million VND compared to the listed price, bringing it down to 377 million VND, while the special AT version is priced at 502 million VND, equivalent to a 40 million VND discount. The biggest discount is for the MT version at 52 million VND, with the new price being 420 million VND. In addition to the deep discount, this dealer also offers additional incentives such as window film, underbody coating, leather floor mats, a leather wallet, and leather steering wheel, among others. Meanwhile, another dealer chooses to offer customers a discount of up to 45 million VND or 100% registration fee exemption for those who purchase a 2023 Hyundai Accent. Therefore, at this time, the selling price of the standard 2023 Hyundai Accent is even lower than that of A-segment models such as the Kia Morning or Toyota Wigo.
Once considered one of the most attractive car segments in the Vietnamese market, the B-segment sedan has gradually lost its appeal in the past year. According to the announcement of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and TC Motor, the sales volume of B-segment sedans in January 2024 reached only 2,617 units, a decrease of nearly 70% compared to December 2023. In particular, as many as 6 out of 7 car models had lower sales volume, ranging from 29% to 78%.
The best-selling model in this segment is the Hyundai Accent, with 916 cars delivered to customers, a decrease of nearly 850 cars compared to the last month of 2024. The second place went to the Toyota Vios with a sales volume of 653 cars, a decrease of 2,369 cars compared to December 2023, equivalent to a 78.39% decrease rate. Despite a significant decline of 68% compared to the previous month, the Honda City still managed to maintain its third-place position with sales volume of 482 cars.
The fourth and fifth positions have swapped between the Mitsubishi Attrage and the Mazda 2. Accordingly, with 150 units sold, the Mitsubishi Attrage has had to drop one place to give way to the Mazda 2, which had better sales performance with 372 units sold.
