Gold prices plummeted sharply

Opening on March 4th, gold prices for SJC dropped across the board compared to the previous weekend. In comparison to the peak reached last Saturday (March 2nd), SJC gold prices decreased by nearly 1 million dong per tael.

At Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), the price of SJC gold has further decreased by 100,000 VND per dong to 78.2-80.2 million VND per dong. Previously, on March 2nd, the price of SJC gold at SJC hit a peak of 81 million VND per dong (selling rate), reaching 78.5 million VND per dong (buying rate) – the highest in history. Therefore, compared to the previous week’s peak, the price of SJC gold at SJC has “vanished” by 800,000 VND per dong.

Similarly, at Bao Tin Minh Chau, the opening price of gold this morning continues to decrease by an additional 100,000 VND per dong to 78.2-80.5 million VND per dong. The price of smooth gold rings at Bao Tin Minh Chau still remains at a record-high level of 66.78-67.98 million VND per dong.

Other brands also have similar adjustments. DOJI, for example, currently lists the price of SJC gold at 78.15-80.15 million VND per dong. PNJ lists the price of SJC gold at 77.9-80.4 million VND per dong.

On the international market, the price of gold stands at 2,080 USD per ounce. Converted at the exchange rate of USD/VND at commercial banks, the international gold price is equivalent to only 62.5 million VND per dong (excluding tax and fees). Meanwhile, estimated at the USD exchange rate in the free market, the international gold price is equivalent to about 64.5 million VND per dong (excluding tax and fees).
