Overview of the Nguyen Khoai Bridge and Road project.

“In the first quarter of 2024, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to complete the investment preparation procedures to select the unit to prepare the adjusted feasibility study report. At the same time, the department has cooperated with the People’s Committees of districts 1, 4, and 7 to review and update the planning and coordinate with the People’s Committee of district 4 on the progress of land clearance work,” the representative of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City said.

The Nguyen Khoai Bridge and Road project includes a bridge section of about 2.5 km; a road section of over 2.3 km; and leading bridge branches with a total length of over 1.3 km.

The main branch will construct a bridge over the Te Canal, continue on an elevated road along Nguyen Khoai Street, then cross the Ben Nghe Canal to connect to Vo Van Kiet Street via two separate bridge branches N7 and N8.

The project includes 8 pedestrian bridges connecting to the roads. According to the representative of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City, the main roads from the southern area to the center of Ho Chi Minh City are currently facing serious congestion. Major routes such as Nguyen Tat Thanh, Nguyen Huu Tho, Te Canal Bridge, Pham Hung Street, etc. are often congested, even during off-peak hours.

Therefore, the Nguyen Khoai Bridge and Road project, crossing the Te and Ben Nghe Canals (following the route of Nguyen Khoai – D1), will create a main road connecting the southern area with the city center of Ho Chi Minh City. The project will contribute to solving the traffic congestion at Te Canal Bridge, Nguyen Huu Tho Street, Nguyen Van Cu Bridge, Chu Y Bridge, etc.

At the same time, this project will gradually complete the traffic infrastructure system, technical infrastructure according to the planning, and meet the increasing transportation needs in the area.
