Chí Thạnh – Vân Phong Expressway passes through Phu Yen province, which is one of the 12 component projects of the East Coast North-South Expressway Phase II (2021-2025). The project starts at the connection with Quy Nhon – Chí Thạnh Expressway and ends at National Road 1 at Ca Pass tunnel. The project was commenced on January 1, 2023, and is expected to be completed by 2025.

The Chí Thạnh – Vân Phong Expressway is over 48 km long, with a total investment of over 10,700 billion VND. The photo shows a section of the expressway passing through Phu Hoa district, crossing National Road 25. Besides Phu Hoa, the expressway also passes through Tuy An district, Tuy Hoa city, Tay Hoa district, and Dong Hoa town.

After one year of construction, the entire Chí Thạnh – Vân Phong Expressway project has achieved over 28% of the contract value and is slightly behind the schedule by more than 1.8%.

Currently, there are 45 construction sites, 537 equipment, and over 1,300 laborers mobilized by the contractors along the entire Chí Thạnh – Vân Phong Expressway. The focus is on constructing bridges, culverts, tunnels, etc., to meet the requirements.

The Chí Thạnh – Vân Phong Expressway project is divided into 2 packages: XL01 and XL02. XL01 package is carried out by a consortium of contractors including Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company, Thang Long Corporation, Lừng Lo Construction Corporation, Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company, and 68 Construction Service and Trading Joint Stock Company. The route includes the Tuy An tunnel and 16 bridges. The package is 24 km long, with a value of 4,300 billion VND.

In the Tuy An tunnel section, the main contractor is mobilizing 3 continuous excavation shifts. The first shift (roof reinforcement): excavation and reinforcement of the frame, installation of cladding sheets, backfilling. Excavation and reinforcement for the second shift (left tunnel) and the third shift (right tunnel) have reached more than 300 out of a total of 772 meters.

The Tuy An tunnel is a mountain tunnel project with a length of about 1,020 meters. In the first phase, a tunnel on the right side will be opened for traffic from Vân Phong to Tuy Hoa. The remaining tunnel will be used as an emergency exit.

XL02 package of the Chí Thạnh – Vân Phong Expressway is carried out by a consortium of contractors including Trung Nam 18 E&C Construction Joint Stock Company, Construction Joint Stock Company No.1, Tự Lập Construction Limited Liability Company, and Central Construction Corporation Joint Stock Company. The package is 24 km long, with a value of 4,103 billion VND.

The focus of this package is the Dan Rang river overpass (2.2 km long) in Tuy Hoa city. The construction site is bustling with over 200 workers, engineers, and various machinery and equipment. With the current progress, the contractor aims to complete the project 6 months ahead of schedule.

Thanks to the continuous construction progress in recent times, the Dan Rang river overpass is starting to take shape.

After one year of construction, up to the present time, XL01 package is 2.6% behind schedule, while XL02 package is slightly behind 1%. The main reasons are the land clearance and technical infrastructure issues, as well as certain contractors being slow in construction process.

To address the difficulties and obstacles, at the beginning of 2024, the Secretary of the Party Committee of Phu Yen province has directed provincial functional agencies to coordinate with the investors and contractors of the Chí Thạnh – Vân Phong Expressway to resolve issues related to land clearance and exploitation of construction materials in the province. For issues beyond the provincial authority, the People’s Committee of Phu Yen province needs to promptly report to the central authorities for guidance and ensure compliance with the Prime Minister’s directives.
