The General Department of Customs refers to statistics from the Customs Department to show that in January 2024, Vietnam imported nearly 62.44 thousand tons of meat and meat products, worth 127.52 million USD, a decrease of 3.5% in quantity and 1.8% in value compared to December 2023. However, compared to January 2023, meat and meat product imports increased by 76.2% in quantity and 72% in value.
According to the General Department of Customs, in January 2024, Vietnam imported around 18.44 thousand tons of meat and meat products from India, worth 55.36 million USD, an increase of 16.9% in quantity and 11.8% in value compared to December 2023. Compared to January 2023, imports of meat and meat products increased by 184.9% in quantity and 190.7% in value.
The statistics also specify that in January 2024, Vietnam mainly imported types such as fresh or frozen poultry meat and edible byproducts after slaughter, fresh or frozen buffalo meat, edible byproducts of pigs, buffalo, and live cattle after slaughter, fresh or frozen pork meat, and fresh or frozen beef meat… The quantity and value of imports of these types significantly increased compared to January 2023.
During this period, Vietnam also imported 5.86 thousand tons of fresh or frozen pork meat, worth 13.01 million USD, a decrease of 22.9% in quantity and 25.2% in value compared to December 2023. However, compared to January 2023, it increased by 19.2% in quantity and 12.5% in value. The average import price reached 2,221 USD/ton, a decrease of 3.1% compared to December 2023 and 5.6% compared to January 2023.
In January 2024, Vietnam imported fresh or frozen pork meat from 14 markets; among them, Brazil accounted for 44.63%, Russia accounted for 25.29%, Canada accounted for 8.36% of Vietnam’s total imported pork meat in January 2024. Importantly, except for Russia, the quantity of pork meat imported from these markets increased significantly compared to January 2023.
