Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee has just issued a decision approving the Can Gio District’s land use plan for 2024.
Can Gio District has a natural area of over 70,445 hectares, of which agricultural land is 46,586 hectares, non-agricultural land is 22,829 hectares, and unused land is 1,029 hectares.

Regarding agricultural land, Can Gio District has 2,240 hectares of land for salt making, 1,053 hectares of land for growing annual crops, 34,350 hectares of forest protection land, more than 6,040 hectares of aquaculture land, etc.
Regarding non-agricultural land, nearly 44 hectares are for national defense – security, 37 hectares for trade and services, 163 hectares for urban residential areas, 746 hectares for rural residential areas, etc.
According to the approved plan, this year, Can Gio District will reclaim 36.4 hectares of agricultural land, including 20 hectares of perennial land and 12.7 hectares of forest protection land.
Non-agricultural land to be reclaimed is 18.4 hectares. Of which, 5.3 hectares for infrastructure development; 0.68 hectares for rural residential; more than 12 hectares for rivers, canals, and streams.
Regarding land use conversion, Can Gio District has over 190 hectares of agricultural land registered for conversion to non-agricultural land. Of which, nearly 9 hectares of rice-growing land, 48 hectares of other annual crops, 83 hectares of perennial crops, 48 hectares of aquaculture, and 2 hectares of salt-making land.
Non-agricultural land not for residential use converted to residential land is 0.04 hectares. In Can Gio District, there is no unused land area included in the 2024 land use plan.
Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee requires Can Gio District to publicly announce the land use plan in accordance with the provisions of the law on land. At the same time, it is necessary to strictly and regularly inspect and supervise the management and use of land economically, effectively, in accordance with the land use plan.
