The infographic below shows the world’s largest nuclear energy generating countries by their percentage of total global production. The data is sourced from the World Nuclear Association and was last updated in August 2022.

According to it, the United States has the largest nuclear energy production output in the world, more than double that of China and France—the second and third-placed countries—combined. US nuclear energy production accounts for nearly 30% of the global total. However, nuclear power only accounts for about 20% of the US electricity supply compared to 60% in France.

One noteworthy point is the rapid increase in China’s nuclear power generation capacity over the past decade. Between 2016 and 2021, its share of total global production rose from less than 10% to over 14%, overtaking France to take second place. In contrast, the UK’s share has fallen to about 2% over the same period.
