Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien, Ho Chi Minh City) has 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations. Among them, 9 elevated stations (from Tan Cang to National University of HCMC) have additional pedestrian bridges connecting passengers from both sides of Hanoi Highway and Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
These nine bridges include: Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai and Cong Nghe Cao, Thu Duc, National University.
After 4 months since the installation of the first beam, the pedestrian bridges are gradually being completed.
As designed, each pedestrian bridge is about 78m long (depending on the location), 3.5m wide and has a roof. The two ends of the pedestrian bridge, connecting the two sides of Hanoi Highway, Vo Nguyen Giap Street and the two roads parallel to the station, make it easy for people to move from residential areas, commercial centers to the elevated station.
At the same time, the pedestrian bridge also connects to bus stops in order to improve the accessibility to the station.
The walkways are designed in harmony with the surrounding landscape and the main architecture of the elevated station (concrete structure, curved steel roof) creating a highlight for the elevated section of Metro Line 1.
In addition to organizing the construction of pedestrian bridges, this area also designed and arranged parking lots with a scale of about 1,500 m2 at each station. Thus, meeting the parking needs (transfer) for 400 – 500 two-wheelers at all elevated station locations.
The workers are busy working on the final stages under the harsh sun.
Currently, the contractor is speeding up the construction of the remaining bridges. It is expected that in June, 9 pedestrian overpasses connecting the stations on Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 will be completed and put into use.
According to the Urban Railway Management Board, the construction volume of Metro Line 1 has reached about 98%.
