On April 30, according to the reporter’s record, blue swimming crabs on Ca Mau market were bought by traders for 650,000 VND/kg; male crabs for 300,000 VND/kg; crabs under 300 grams for 200,000 VND/kg.

Compared to a week ago, the price of sea crabs during the holidays increased from 30,000 – 200,000 VND/kg (depending on the type).

Ca Mau’s sea crab prices only increase slightly but many crab farmers still earn millions during the holiday.

Nguyen Van Thang (residing in Ca Nuoc district, Ca Mau province) said that his family has more than 3 hectares of shrimp and crab farming. To have commercial crabs for sale continuously, people release crab seedlings 3 times a year, each batch is 4 – 5 months apart.

After being released into the shrimp pond, the crab seedlings will catch small shrimp, fish, etc. to eat and develop entirely based on nature. After more than 5 months of farming, when the crabs reach a weight of over 300 grams each, people start harvesting.

“With the current price, I sold 5 kg of commercial crabs that were just caught with traps and earned nearly 2.7 million VND. The price of sea crabs during the holiday this year is not as high as in previous years, but we are very happy,” said Mr. Thang.

According to many traders, consumers tightening their spending due to economic difficulties is considered one of the reasons why the price of Ca Mau’s main product has not increased as sharply as in previous years.

Ca Mau has over 250,000 hectares of sea crab farming with an output of over 25,000 tons/year. Sea crabs are considered the main product of Ca Mau province because every year they bring in revenue of over 10,000 billion VND to the locality.
