Unbelievable Scenes At Tan Son Nhat Airport

On April 29, Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City was quite deserted, unlike previous peak periods. The reason is that many people took advantage of the early days to return to their hometown or go on vacation. The hot weather also made many families hesitant to choose to go far away.

On April 29, reporters noted that Tan Son Nhat International Airport (TSN) was relatively quiet. Inside the taxi and car pickup area, there were few vehicles. Airport staff did not have to work as hard to manage the flow of people as they did during previous peak periods.

The check-in area for airlines at the domestic terminal was also quite empty. Meanwhile, the security screening area of the domestic terminal … was surprisingly clear during the day.

The domestic terminal at Tan Son Nhat International Airport was nearly empty on April 29th.

According to TSN, there were over 590 arriving and departing flights on April 29th, carrying approximately 89,000 passengers. Of these, about 42,000 were arriving passengers and 47,000 were departing passengers. The number of passengers has decreased significantly compared to the peak of the holiday period. Specifically, on April 26th, TSN welcomed over 690 arriving and departing flights with more than 115,000 passengers.

Fewer passengers meant a less crowded Tan Son Nhat airport on April 29th.

Mr. Le Van Phong (31 years old, living in District 8) said that because he was worried about crowds and long waits at the beginning of the holiday period, he booked a flight for April 29th to return home to Tuy Hoa (Phu Yen).

“Just as I predicted, the airport was quite empty today, and everything was smooth. All procedures were handled quickly, and passengers did not have to wait too long,” shared Mr. Phong.

A representative of TSN stated that the reason for the decrease in the number of passengers on April 29th was probably because many people had already taken advantage of the early days of the holiday to return home or go on vacation.

Previously, TSN had predicted that during the peak period of the 30/4-1/5 holiday, there would be 4,280 arriving and departing flights, including more than 1,600 international flights and nearly 2,680 domestic flights, carrying approximately 686,000 arriving and departing passengers. On average, there would be approximately 720 flights per day, with the two peak days being April 26th and May 1st, which were expected to have 740 flights and 125,000 passengers each day.

The check-in counters for several airlines were empty on April 29th.

The departure waiting area was not as crowded as during previous peak periods.

Compared to the peak of the 2024 Lunar New Year, the number of passengers passing through Tan Son Nhat Airport on the peak day of the 30/4 holiday was also down by 20,000 – 25,000 per day.

According to a survey by PV, there are still many options for flight tickets from Ho Chi Minh City to tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc, Phu Yen, Da Nang, and Nha Trang. For example, the Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc, Nha Trang route has the highest price of around 3.5 million VND/round trip. In addition, the widespread hot weather throughout the country during the holiday period has also made many families hesitant to travel far.
