Mr. Tran Thanh Man Elected as the New Speaker of the House

The National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam continued its 7th session on May 20th, with a key agenda item being the election of the National Assembly President. The proceedings were efficiently overseen by Vice President Nguyen Khac Dinh in the Diên Hồng Hall of the National Assembly building.

The electronic voting results showed that 475 out of 475 delegates, or 100% of the total number of delegates present, voted in favor of the resolution. Thus, the National Assembly passed the resolution to elect Mr. Tran Thanh Man as the President of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the term 2021-2026.

Immediately after the National Assembly passed the resolution, Mr. Tran Thanh Man took the stage to take the oath of office: “Under the sacred red flag with a golden star of the Motherland, before the National Assembly, compatriots, and voters across the country, I, the President of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, solemnly swear: absolute loyalty to the Motherland, the people, and the Constitution; strive to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State, and people.”

In his inaugural speech, the newly elected President of the National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, expressed his sincere gratitude to the delegates of the 15th National Assembly for their trust and support in electing him as the President of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He acknowledged the great honor and the immense responsibility that comes with this position before the Party, State, and people.

President Tran Thanh Man expressed his profound respect and infinite gratitude to the great President Ho Chi Minh, the revolutionary predecessors, the elderly, the heroic Vietnamese mothers, the armed forces’ heroes, and the labor heroes. He also extended his appreciation to the families of fallen soldiers, the wounded and sick soldiers, and those who have made great contributions to the country. Additionally, he thanked the Central Executive Committee, the Politburo, the Party Secretariat, and Comrade General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for their wise and close leadership and guidance. He also sincerely thanked the National Assembly delegates, compatriots, and voters across the country, as well as overseas Vietnamese, for their support and assistance in building a strong and prosperous Vietnam with enhanced potential, position, and international prestige.

President Tran Thanh Man emphasized his deep understanding that regardless of his position, he must always remain steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism. He vowed to creatively apply and develop Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, firmly uphold the Party’s renewal line, and ensure the highest benefits for the nation and the legitimate rights and interests of the people.

He committed to adhering to and strictly complying with the Party’s guidelines and policies and the State’s laws, maintaining consistency and steadfastness in the face of new challenges and difficulties. President Tran Thanh Man also pledged to cultivate and refine his revolutionary morals, regularly self-reflect, self-correct, and engage in self-criticism and criticism. He promised to set an example in terms of morality and lifestyle in both his work and personal life.

With pride in the glorious Party, the great Ho Chi Minh, and the heroic Vietnamese people, and with high expectations for the country’s future development, President Tran Thanh Man affirmed his determination to make the utmost effort, along with the entire Party, people, and army, to successfully achieve the goal of building a prosperous and civilized country where people live in warmth and happiness.

In fulfilling the duties and powers vested in him by the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the trust bestowed by the Party, State, and people, President Tran Thanh Man dedicated himself to serving the nation and the people. He pledged to work with the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the agencies of the National Assembly, and the delegates to continue promoting innovation and improving the quality and effectiveness of legislative, supervisory, and decisive activities on important issues of the country. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the National Assembly’s foreign affairs alongside the Party’s foreign relations, state diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy. By upholding democracy, solidarity, transparency, and professionalism, he aims to contribute to building a law-governed socialist state that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.

On this occasion, President Tran Thanh Man expressed his hope that the Central Committee of the Party, the Politburo, the Party Secretariat, the leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front would continue to support, accompany, and facilitate him in fulfilling his duties. He also sought support from the National Assembly delegates, the agencies of the National Assembly, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, sectors, localities, agencies, and units, as well as voters and people across the country, overseas Vietnamese, intellectuals, and international friends. He believed that with their encouragement, assistance, and trust, he would be able to successfully carry out his responsibilities.

Mr. Tran Thanh Man, 62, a native of Chau Thanh A district in Hau Giang province, holds a doctorate in economics. He is a member of the 11th, 12th, and 13th Central Committees of the Party, a member of the Politburo of the 13th term, and a deputy of the 13th, 14th, and 15th National Assemblies.

He has served as Vice Secretary of the Hau Giang Provincial Youth Union, Secretary of the Can Tho Provincial Youth Union, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho Party Committee, and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

In April 2021, Mr. Man was elected as Vice President of the National Assembly. On May 2, he was assigned by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly to conduct the Standing Committee’s and the National Assembly’s activities after the National Assembly dismissed Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue from his position.
