Speaking at the conference, Mr. Aidan Dunleavy, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of International Trade at BG Products, Inc. (USA), shared that the BG-branded automotive maintenance additives have been officially distributed in Vietnam since 2017. Since then, Vietnam has been the company’s most impressive growth market globally, consistently achieving high growth rates.

Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of professional car care to prolong engine life, enhance safety, save fuel, and reduce emissions. As a result, according to BG Vietnam’s representative, the market for engine maintenance and care additives in Vietnam will continue to thrive in the coming years.

This conference gathered representatives from over 70 leading authorized car dealers nationwide, as well as car manufacturers in Vietnam. BG Vietnam provided updates on several new services following the trends in engine technology, including hybrid engine lubrication, coolant, transmission, and motorcycle maintenance additive services.

With consumers’ growing awareness and knowledge, the car care and maintenance market in Vietnam has recently witnessed a noticeable shift from a “service provider recommendation” to a “consumer-driven” approach, where consumers demand well-known brands and quality products with proven track records.

This serves as a crucial motivator for manufacturers, distributors, and automotive maintenance service providers to further invest in technology, services, and accompanying additives to meet consumers’ evolving needs and quality expectations.

BG Vietnam envisions a Vietnam where every car undergoes “professional maintenance and performance restoration” and has easy access to the BG maintenance product ecosystem.

Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, CEO of Vietnam Petroleum Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company (VNPETRO), one of BG’s two authorized distributors in Vietnam, stated that BG Vietnam currently offers most of the products in the BG automotive engine maintenance and care additive ecosystem. After seven years of development, BG Vietnam has supplied products to the majority of authorized car dealers of renowned brands such as Toyota, Ford, Thaco (Kia, Mazda, Peugeot, BMW), Hyundai, Mitsubishi, and Nissan operating in the market.

According to the National Traffic Safety Committee, more than 400,000 new cars were registered nationwide in 2023, bringing the total to over 6.3 million registered vehicles. Additionally, data from the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) indicates that Vietnam’s car ownership rate is growing at 17% annually (during 2015–2020).

The CEO of VNPETRO estimated that with a minimum maintenance cost of approximately $100 per year per car, the car care and maintenance market in Vietnam is projected to reach a value of billions of dollars within just 7–10 years. Additives could contribute up to 30% of the value in the service chain.
