The Richest 20: How the Stock Market’s Elite Made Their Billions in the First Half of the Year

The billionaire duo of Tran Dinh Long and Truong Gia Binh have witnessed a substantial boost in their wealth, with each of their fortunes surging by a remarkable 4.8 trillion VND. This significant increase further solidifies their prominent positions in the upper echelons of Vietnam's business landscape.

The final trading session of June (28/6) concluded on a negative note for the stock market. The VN-Index fell by 13.77 points, corresponding to a 1.09% decrease, settling at 1,245.32 points, with most industry groups trading in the red.

However, the Vietnamese stock market concluded the first half of 2024 on a positive trajectory. Since the beginning of the year, the VN-Index has climbed by 115.39 points, resulting in substantial gains for numerous investors.

As of 28/6/2024, the top 20 richest individuals on the stock market possessed a collective wealth of over VND 360,000 billion, marking a VND 22,000 billion increase compared to the final trading session of 2023.

Notably, FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh witnessed the most significant growth in his wealth during the first half of 2024, both in terms of value and percentage. Specifically, the prolonged upward trajectory of FPT shares since the start of the year has resulted in a 56% increase in Mr. Binh’s wealth, equivalent to VND 4,800 billion. This substantial gain propelled him three spots higher to become the seventh richest individual in Vietnam’s stock market.

The wealth of billionaire Tran Dinh Long also increased by VND 4,800 billion, an 11% surge compared to the beginning of the year, solidifying his position as the second richest individual in the market.

The duo of billionaires, Nguyen Dang Quang and Ho Hung Anh, also pocketed additional gains of VND 2,500 billion and VND 2,900 billion, respectively, as both TCB of Techcombank and MSN of Masan performed well in the stock market.

The wealth of Mobile World Chairman Nguyen Duc Tai increased by VND 3,600 billion, representing a 44% surge compared to the start of the year.

On the contrary, billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong experienced a loss of VND 7,600 billion in the first half of the year. Novaland Chairman and female billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao also faced losses of VND 3,000 billion and VND 1,000 billion, respectively.

Additionally, several other notable individuals on the list include Ho Xuan Nang, Chairman of Vicostone (with a gain of VND 2,500 billion), Dao Huu Huyen, Chairman of Duc Giang Chemical Group (with a gain of VND 2,000 billion), and Tran Le Quan, Founder of Mobile World (with a gain of VND 2,300 billion), among others.
