Car dealership’s paint job starts peeling off after just 20 days
In early April 2024, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Tram purchased two MG5 manual cars from the MG Lang Ha dealership. After the purchase, she requested that the dealership repaint both cars from white to yellow to suit her business and service needs. The cost of painting each car was 14.5 million VND.
Ms. Tram shared that she and the dealership had agreed to repaint the entire car, both inside and out. However, the result left the owner of the two MG5s “extremely disappointed.”
“Both cars took over a month to be delivered. The paint job on the first car was very sloppy. I informed the salesperson and the dealership that the second car should be done carefully and according to our agreement. The dealership agreed, but when I received the second car, it had the same issues as the first,” Ms. Tram recounted angrily.
When the female owner of the two MG5s reported the issue, the dealership staff replied that it was the fault of the painting department and asked her to bring the cars back to Hanoi for repainting. “The paint started peeling off messily from the undercarriage after just 20 days,” shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Tram.

The dealership’s response and the car owner’s solution
After multiple attempts to contact the dealership, they still only offered the solution of having Ms. Tram bring the cars back to Hanoi for repainting, which she firmly refused.
“My cars are used for business and services. Sending them to Hanoi for repainting would take more than a month, causing a significant loss of time and daily profits. I would also have to pay the drivers’ salaries. Why should I bear these costs when it’s the dealership’s negligence? And who knows how long I would have to wait for the repainting to be done?” Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Tram stated.
As a solution, the owner of the two MG5s requested that the dealership refund the cost of repainting so that she could have it done at a private garage. On June 28, Ms. Tram met with the dealership to discuss the issue. However, the negotiation reached a deadlock as the dealership only agreed to refund 50% of the repainting cost, which Ms. Tram did not accept.
