The pineapple harvest is in full swing in Thanh Hoa, and farmers are hard at work in the fields, braving the scorching sun to earn a daily wage of 300,000 to 500,000 VND. It's a tough job, but the rewards are sweet as the fruit itself.
Pineapple fields stretch far and wide in Ha Trung, Thach Thanh, and Bim Son (Thanh Hoa), where farmers are busy harvesting the sweet fruit. Despite the scorching heat, they tirelessly work to gather the pineapples, selling them to traders and fruit processing factories.
In these pineapple fields, many freelance laborers seek a living. Their task is to pick and carry the fruit to waiting trucks. It’s arduous work, but men can earn 500,000–700,000 VND per day (they pick on the hills, a longer distance), while women earn about 300,000 VND.
According to locals, this year’s pineapple crop has high yields, with large, beautiful fruits. Each pineapple weighs between 0.8 and 1.4 kg. With a good harvest and fair prices, pineapple farmers are delighted as they can earn about 200 million VND per hectare after deducting all expenses.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Thanh Hoa Province, about 3,200 hectares of pineapples were planted in the province during the 2024 crop, with 1,300 hectares belonging to agricultural and forestry farms and linked enterprises, and the rest to households.
There are two main varieties of pineapple grown in Thanh Hoa: Queen and Cayenne. Queen pineapples are mainly cultivated in Bim Son and Ha Trung, while Cayenne thrives in regions like Ngoc Lac and Thach Thanh.
Thanks to the high yields and stable output of pineapples, thousands of households in Thanh Hoa have enjoyed improved livelihoods and stable incomes over the years.
