Former VCCI Chairman Vu Tien Loc Passes Away

Dr. Vu Tien Loc, a member of the 15th National Assembly and former Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), passed away suddenly at the age of 64 on the morning of August 5th.

A source at VCCI has confirmed to the VTC News e-newspaper that Mr. Vu Tien Loc has passed away suddenly.

Mr. Vu Tien Loc was born in 1960 in Thai Binh province. He held a Doctorate in Economics and a Senior Political Theory degree, and had taught at various universities both domestically and abroad. From 2003 to 2021, Mr. Loc served as the Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

Dr. Vu Tien Loc was a member of the National Assembly of Vietnam for the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th terms. He also held positions in several committees, including the Economic and Budget Committee and the Economic Committee. Additionally, he was the Chairman of the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC). He currently serves as a member of the 15th National Assembly.

Mr. Vu Tien Loc has left a significant mark on the National Assembly and the business community’s development journey. In 2004, he proposed to the Prime Minister that October 13th be designated as Vietnamese Entrepreneurs’ Day. He also initiated the suggestion to constitutionally recognize the role of enterprises and entrepreneurs in the 13th National Assembly.

During his tenure as VCCI Chairman, he proposed formalizing the household business model in the Enterprise Law, enhancing transparency and competitiveness in this economic sector.

Former VCCI Chairman Vu Tien Loc Passes Away

Under Mr. Loc’s leadership, VCCI implemented numerous programs to support small and medium-sized enterprises and national startups. During this period, the organization also researched and published rankings for the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI).

Mr. Loc frequently chaired policy dialogues between the government and businesses, as well as major business summits and forums in Vietnam and abroad. He served as the Chairman of the APEC CEO Summit in 2006 and 2017 and founded and managed the annual Vietnam Business Summit (VBS) for several years.

Additionally, Mr. Loc held various other positions, including Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Council for Sustainable Development and Competitiveness Improvement, Vice Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council for Administrative Procedure Reform, Chairman of the Vietnam Public-Private Partnership Forum, Chairman of the Central Council of Vietnamese Business Associations, and Chairman of the Vietnam Business Forums Alliance (VBF).

Dr. Vu Tien Loc directed the research and publication of the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) rankings, which VCCI has been constructing and announcing for many years.
