The Hanoi People's Committee has recently approved a master plan adjustment for a mixed-use complex in the city's Ba Dinh District. This development, located at 148 Giang Vo, will encompass a vibrant mix of commercial, service, and cultural spaces, carefully detailed in a 1/500 scale plan.

The 148 Giang Vo service land plot (formerly known as the Vietnam Exhibition Fair Center, or Giang Vo Exhibition Center) has a portion of its land adjacent to Giang Vo Lake and sits at the intersection of Ngoc Khanh and Giang Vo streets.

In 2016, the exhibition building was demolished, and a new plan was proposed to construct a complex of commercial, entertainment, and recreational centers on this 7-hectare plot of land.

After much consideration and adjustments to the planning, even the Hanoi People’s Council meetings inquired about the project’s progress. As of now, no construction has taken place on the site.

Hanoi plans to build 10 50-story buildings in this area.

As of July 2024, Duong Duc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, has made adjustments to the detailed planning at a scale of 1/500 for this project.

According to the new plan, the area will not include residential functions and will not accommodate lodging spaces.

The project has been redirected to focus on the construction of mixed-use high-rise buildings with primary functions, including a commercial center, office space, and cultural spaces (conference center, club, entertainment…), along with low-rise commercial service buildings (without lodging) integrated with a pedestrian street and green landscapes.

According to Hanoi’s leadership, the project will not distribute the population and will significantly reduce the scale of the works to lessen the pressure on social and technical infrastructure in the area.

The planning for the commercial and service area includes 8 land plots, with a maximum of 5 floors. Mixed-use land will have a maximum construction height of 5 to 40 stories, while the inter-level school land will have a maximum of 5 floors.

The project has a total land area of over 68,300 square meters for planning research and adjustment.
