In a significant move, Vietnam Railways has officially signed a strategic partnership with the Vietnamese Super App, BE GROUP, to offer online ticket sales, seat selection, and a unique 5-in-1 multi-modal transportation integration: Airlines – Trains – Motorcycles – Cars – Coaches.

Vietnam Railways Goes Digital with the Vietnamese Super App

According to Vietnam Railways’ representative, in the first half of 2024, the Vietnam Railways Corporation recorded nearly 3.7 million passengers, a growth of over 15% compared to the same period in 2023.

The best-performing routes include: Saigon to Phan Thiet, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, and Da Nang; Hanoi to Vinh, Dong Hoi, Hue, Da Nang, Lao Cai, and Hai Phong; Nha Trang to Da Nang; and Da Lat – Trai Mat. In addition to destinations, factors that strongly influence the decision to buy train tickets include price, travel time, type of seat/berth, and train quality.

What’s even more special is that train travel is increasingly attracting young passengers and young families looking for exciting and dreamy travel experiences at reasonable prices. They can enjoy a polite compartment space and admire the beautiful train routes across the country, with ticket prices starting at just 32,000 VND per leg…

The train route passes through the wind farm.

This development can be partly explained by the collaboration strategy with super apps, with over 50% of tickets sold online.

For example, the partnership with the BE super app, which is the first super app to offer all five types of transportation—cars, motorcycles, airplanes, trains, and buses—on a single platform, serving over 10 million customers.

When purchasing train tickets on BE, customers can not only buy tickets in advance but also choose their seats, select VIP compartments, and enjoy a variety of payment methods, including the bePaylater post-paid wallet with preferential interest rates, as well as diverse promotions and discounts.

“The trend of young customers or families increasingly preferring to plan multi-modal transportation that integrates airplanes and trains for their trips or returns, or taxi transfers to the station, is a new and technically complex demand. Therefore, Vietnam Railways chose to partner with BE, a super app with 10 million customers meeting all the travel needs of Vietnamese people,” the representative commented.

BE – The Pioneer Super App Integrating 5-in-1 Travel Solutions

With over 10 million users, BE is currently the leading app that integrates all five types of transportation: Airlines – Trains – Motorcycles – Cars – Coaches, with hundreds of thousands of drivers and thousands of partners integrated into the platform, forming an incredibly massive and unique transportation ecosystem.

Interestingly, the app also launched “VIP” services, including Car Plus and Bike Plus, with higher standards for driver and vehicle selection. In the future, this Vietnamese super app is expected to continue introducing many other exciting solutions to serve its large and increasingly tech-savvy customer base.

Seat selection feature, post-payment option, and diverse promotions on BE

Looking at the numbers, the app’s strategy of deep development seems to be paying off, with the scale of airline ticket values on BE in the first half of 2024 doubling compared to the same period in 2023; GMV of coach tickets increased by 5 times. And most recently, the train ticket booking service on BE generated 3 times the expected revenue in the first week of its launch.

Additionally, according to the 2024 Q&ME survey on the usage habits of ride-hailing apps, BE is the super app with the highest per-user spending. This also reflects the clear shift in online spending trends in terms of both quality and quantity: increased spending online and more options for comparing experiences. In this context, BE has partnered with Cake by VPBank to launch the “bePaylater” post-paid financial feature for high-value travel services such as airline and train tickets…

It can be seen that the development of not only the breadth – adding more services, but also the depth of services – the VIP product range – and technology with the post-paid payment product in a very short time is a well-calculated step for the app to get ahead of consumer trends in a technology-driven and volatile market.
