The event is expected to last from August 16 to August 22, across 22 GO!, Big C, and Tops Market supermarkets in the Northern region.

Mr. Vu Quang Thang, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Hung Yen, shared that Hung Yen longan is currently ranked 13th among the top 50 famous fruits of Vietnam. It has been recognized by the Vietnam Records Organization as the tastiest fruit and has been registered for trademark protection as “Hung Yen Longan – The King’s Fruit”. The geographical indication ensures that customers can identify and enjoy the authentic Hung Yen longan.

Hung Yen longan prices range from 50,000 to 80,000 VND per kg

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Hung Yen Province, in 2024, the longan cultivation area in the province is approximately 4,700 hectares, with an estimated yield of over 40,000 tons.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet, representing Minh Bao Clean Agricultural Cooperative (Khoai Chau district, Hung Yen province), shared that this year’s yield is only about 40% compared to last year. However, the selling price has increased by 50%, ranging from 50,000 to 80,000 VND per kg.

Mr. Paul Le, Vice President of Central Retail in Vietnam, praised Hung Yen for its unique-tasting fruits such as longan and thieu lychee. However, he emphasized the need to further develop the product’s brand in conjunction with a strategy for packaging innovation and deeper processing.

“Farmers usually pick the fresh longan and then sell it. However, the promotion and trade promotion work is still ‘out of sync’. It’s important to have a strategy in place before selling, including packaging design, cold storage, and contacting supermarkets to properly advertise their products,” said Mr. Paul Le.

According to Mr. Paul Le, it is necessary to strengthen brand building with a product story, along with improved packaging that meets international standards. Hung Yen longan has the potential for export to markets such as the European Union and the United States.
