The Holiday-Beach Subway is a unique pedestrian tunnel in Da Nang that leads to the beach and an underground entertainment area. It connects the An Thuong tourist street in Ngu Hanh Son district to My Khe beach and was built by Holiday Beach Danang Hotel & Resort in collaboration with the Da Nang People’s Committee. The project was inaugurated and opened to the public on April 29, 2016, attracting a large number of locals and tourists.

This tunnel consists of two open-air sections, each 20 meters long, and a closed tunnel nearly 30 meters long and 7 meters wide. It also features an extensive underground entertainment area spanning 300 square meters, including a ball pit, swings, a Subway Library, and a free movie theater for children with a capacity of 50 seats.

However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, the tunnel and its associated services have been closed. Left unused for an extended period, the interior of the tunnel has become dark and foreboding, creating an eerie atmosphere for visitors.

Many parts of the tunnel have fallen into disrepair, including electrical wiring that has been dangerously reconnected after being damaged. Additionally, manhole covers have come loose, posing a potential safety hazard.

Once a vibrant space with a movie theater and play area for children, the tunnel now lies silent and covered in dust. The area that once brought joy to many young visitors is now deserted and forgotten.

The souvenir shop, once a bustling hub for tourists and locals alike, has also closed its doors. The once-cherished mementos now gather dust, forgotten and neglected.

The tunnel’s water fountain feature, once a beautiful addition to the landscape, now lies dry and filled with trash and plastic bottles. It stands as a sad reminder of the tunnel’s former glory.

In the closed tunnel section, several ceiling panels have deteriorated and collapsed. The iron railings leading down to the tunnel from the An Thuong tourist street entrance are rusted and in need of repair.

According to the My An Ward People’s Committee, the tunnel is still managed by Holiday Beach Danang Hotel & Resort, with the local government playing a coordinating role. While the local authorities have emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness and safety for visitors using the tunnel as a beach access point, the lack of signage means that most tourists are unaware of its existence.
