On the first day of paid services, the Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station urban railway line attracted large crowds of people eager to purchase tickets and experience this new mode of public transportation.

Compared to the free trial days, there was a slight decrease in the number of passengers. However, a positive sign was that the train carriages were mostly full during peak hours.

Passengers queued up neatly, following the instructions of the station staff, to purchase their tickets.

Passengers can also conveniently purchase tickets from the automatic ticket vending machines. As there are only a few days left in the month, the operator is currently only offering single and day tickets. Monthly passes will be available for purchase for travel from September 2024 onwards.

The number of potential passengers for the Nhon – Hanoi Metro line is showing signs of increasing, especially among students. The elevated section of the metro line, though only 8.5 km long, passes by 11 universities, making it a convenient option for many.

Station staff provided enthusiastic assistance and guidance to passengers.

Hieu Minh (in the blue shirt), a second-year student at Hanoi University of Industry, shared: “The metro station is just 70 meters from my house, so it’s much more convenient now. Before, I used to take the bus to school, which was often stuck in traffic, and sometimes I even arrived late.”

The majority of passengers were students and office workers.

The metro station also serves as an ideal check-in spot for young people.

According to the current fare scheme, a single trip on the line costs VND 8,000, while a full-line trip costs VND 12,000. A day pass is priced at VND 24,000, valid for unlimited trips within a day. Monthly passes are also available for VND 200,000, with discounted rates of VND 100,000 for students. For non-priority group purchases, the monthly pass costs VND 140,000.

Ms. Hoai Thu, who experienced the metro with a group of friends, shared: “This metro is fast, convenient, airy, and clean. The fares are also affordable. It’s a great way to avoid traffic jams and save time on the road. I believe it will become a popular choice for many Hanoi residents.”
